I've had D3's and a D4, currently got an X5 3.0d M sport due to the emissions with the company car allowance, I've got to say I do love the drive of the X5, nippy, sounds good, about 35-40 mpg and the road tax is £180, all round cameras and online concierge packages inc music
The only downside is in the snow... it drives anywhere but struggles to stop unless you put winters on it
At the moment I'm building en extension and I've managed to fit loads in it... 250 bricks, 35 7nm block, 3m lengths of timber, internal doors, 20 bags of sand and 10 bags of cement... (not at the same time) and no issues whatsoever ever..
I'd have another with no hesitation, If it ain't broke... Take it apart anyway, how else you gonna find out how it works

You must have better dealers that side of the Pennines
I'm not knocking the X5 by any means but the Disco was just a bit more of an experience. I still pampered it like all my cars, but didn't mind chucking garden sheds etc in it and it just hoovered out and came back for more.
Size wise, I found the D4 easier to manoeuvre as it's pretty slab sided and easier to where the judge corners are. Plus as a short fat bloke with 2 cars in a modern build double garage, the lack of curvature means I can get my belly past the doors.
The X5 has way better sensors and cameras to overcome the tight positioning in the garage. It'd be interesting to hear what the D5 guys think given the new styling.
Anyway, my next car will be a Panda 4x4 the ways we're spending on the house right now 2010 MX-5 2.0 Sport Tech PRHT

From a dog's point of view:
I haven't owned an X5 but, having looked at one, I was shocked by the lack of dog space in the boot, the poor view out for said dog and the rigid plastic lower tailgate liner, which means that dogs are likely to lose traction, slip and potentially hurt themselves on that, all important, take off and landing ramp.
Whilst the D5's electric plank might be a bit of a joke, at least it's carpeted and nicely flush, so there's nothing for dew claws to catch on. To really cock it up for a dog, you need to build it like this:

What's the height of the lower tailgate when lowered? Is it nice and low, like the D4, or too high like the D5 or the RR? To save the risk of injury to a 9 year old collie, i'll have to carry a ramp in the RR. There's plenty of room to carry one in a RR or D5, but there really isn't the depth to stow a decent one in the X5.2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

How easy the D5 is to judge its position in tight spots. The D4 was very easy to live with in that regard.2010 MX-5 2.0 Sport Tech PRHT

Thanks all again, I've shared the link with Big Bruv
He now seems to be wavering a little on the X5, although still prefers driving it - remember he's a member of the Iggy family, so will um and are for several weeks before making a decision (or not) Iggy/Ieuan

Ahh ok, I haven't found it to be that bad my main gripe is the D5 has a bit less steering lock than the D4 but only noticeable in really tight spots.
