Hi, I'm hoping someone may just be able to give me a few ideas on this issue, I picked my disco4 up this afternoon after having the cambelt changed and went straight to France - not the best idea in hindsight but on the way up a steep hill I put my foot down and it went into restricted power mode. I pulled over and turned it off and it was fine for another hour until I overtook and again it came on. I've just arrived and managed to lock my keys in it which is weird as it usually beeps if they are left inside, luckily we had a spare set in my wife's bag. Oh and I hit a deer, not really the most enjoyable trip tonight. I'm thinking maybe something has been left unplugged or loose etc and was hoping someone who knows what's involved in doing the cambelt may be able to give me a suggestion as to what to look at, it seems to be ok if you drive really gently and keep it below 2000rpm. There is a Land Rover dealer about an hour away from me but I was hoping it might be something simple.
any help greatly appreciated

Hi Brian,
The first thing I would check would be the connections for the MAF sensors. If your not mechanically minded, these are the two sensors that attach to the pipes that come from the air box to the left hand side of your engine bay behind the headlight. I believe that the second turbo only kicks in after a certain rpm and so the second MAF may flag up a fault at this point.
Are you towing a caravan?

And check that you have fuse 17 in place and it's not blown. I am assuming that D3 and D4 have same wiring for that sensor. 2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

Hi, I've unplugged and plugged back in the maf sensors and checked the fuse but all seem ok, I've got a really basic fault code reader which hasn't got any codes stored on it. I've just pulled off my drive and within a couple of seconds it's come up with restricted performance again. If anyone can think of anything else to try let me know! Thanks for all the help! D4 HSE

Restricted performance under load on a D3 would normally point to under boost. Just check all your turbo hoses are tightened up. Particularly the ones they might have touched by changing belts.

Hi yes that's exactly what happened on my old d3, sudden loss of power and the top pipe had come off at one end, unfortunately I'm not very technical, I've looked at the pipes on top of the engine, are there others lower down I should look at, I can't even see the turbos - on my little turbo Elan I had exactly the same problem with the pipe popping off, on that the turbo couldn't be missed as it's right at the front. Any pointers on where to look for the pipes would be really handy. Thanks for the help! D4 HSE

The turbo hose going to the inlet of the engine can be split at the underside at the bend. You can only see this when you disconnect it. Had this before.

The turbos are at the rear/bottom of the engine and create air pressure to the top of the engine to enter the cylinder with the fuel. They route via an Intercooler / radiator at the front - they should be the thickest hoses going into the front radiator area and exiting towards the top on the engine. I am not familiar with how this exactly routes on the D4. Check your hose clamps and check for splits in the hoses. After that I think you need to get the codes read since that's the only visual style check you can do with your fault.

To have a proper look you need to remove 2x inspection panels at the front (bottom) very inside of each of the front inner mud shields. They are 30x30cms and have a right angle bend in them. They are retained by 4x 2 piece clips. You need to removed the inner part of the clip first with a flat screw driver then the outer piece with same. It's a good little job to start the process of becoming a home mechanic which is a prerequisite of ownership of one of these beasts.
