Hi, it's all fixed, I followed your advice and removed the lower covers, all looked fine, I unplugged the vacuum pipe and the valve moved freely. I then traced the vacuum pipe up to a block at the top of the engine. Feeling under the black plastic block (see pic) not sure what it's called, I could feel the vacuum pipe was hanging loose. I took the plastic box off and there was a small pipe connector underneath that was not connected. Plugged it in and everything works. So thanks to everyone for all the help. Saved me spending half my holiday trying to explain all this in French at the local dealers!

If your unsure of where the hoses run from and too, this YouTube video link may be helpful. I used this when I had restricted performance issues and mine turned out to be the MAF sensors. Be aware that the MAF's on this engine can throw up inconsistent fault codes as I realised with mine

Just realised you have already solved this issue 😉
Sorry don't know why the pics didn't upload, the one with the pipes shows where the vacuum pipe from the turbo valve thing behind the drivers side plastic cover goes to, this then goes under the plastic intake (in other pic) and was where mine had come off.D4 HSE
