Hi everyone.
I have this weird noise, I've searched and not really found much on this noise, it's a ticking noise but it's a strange one, it doesn't seem to increase with revs but only on idle, but it's is still there faintly as you can here it slightly when you pass through buildings, it sounds like it's all over the engine bay, under the arches, I have even done the screw driver to ear and had a listen but it's obvious that it's been projected across the engine bay.
She's 07 andIt has 197k miles on her, many timing belt changes last one 6k miles ago, and oil change 5k miles but due to do it again shortly. No loss of power feels good probably could do with egrs being removed as it lags abit till 2k rpm then shoots off.
Is this noise anything to worry about? I've heard that it's just worn engine and you will get noises like this but I'm not to convinced as I see it's only really just broke in?
Not particularly worried as it's 10 year old vehicle with nearly 200k miles but would be nice to keep her going and maybe sort the issue.
Anyway here's a video of it probably hard to tell from video but it's not that loud in reality, it's only noticeable just
Thanks
James

Looks like both have been recently replaced, with new alternator and belt by looks of things.

Bet you a pint of beer thats just your injectors clicking, get on ebay and buy one of them cheap sthethoscopes and get listening, if you think about it thats the reason the sound is everywhere as so are the injectors.
Quite a few vids on youtube of tdv6 engines running so a quick listen to some of them should cheer you up

Lynalldiscovery, yes it does sound like the injectors ticking! But why is this? Is it new injector time or copper washer time?

Oh yeah. That's what they do then.
Also missing the main cover (removed for investigation?) which also cuts out a lot of diesel noise

Oh, the injectors like to be wrapped up? Yes the top cover removed for better inspection, need to clean up the mess from the foam and install new foam on cover but there wasn't anything coving the sides for injectors? Should there be a blanket?

Cheers

Theres a thread on here somewhere where a guy bought heat proof foil backed foam and replaced the knackered foam on the underside of his engine cover and as he had some left over he removed the bonnet sound deadener and applied the foam between the bonnet and the original sound deadener, very neat and works well.

Have a google on how common rail injectors work, quite interesting and the opposite to how old school diesel injectors work and the pressures are amazing.
Example my old 200tdi runs at 280 bar max, most common rail motors need 200 bar just to start.

Thanks every one I will replace the sound deadening foam and go from there
I'm used to a discovery 1 and 2 so this is a big leap in terms of diesel and electronics.

Bit of an update, put new sound proof stuff on the engine cover and made some bits of the injector blankets, this hasn't changed anything can still hear the noise, and it is now RPM Related as I can get it in higher rpms.
