External air temperature sensor not working

Morning.

I picked my 2005 D3 HSE up from the indie yesterday after they replaced the air con compressor. The air con is working well but I'm not getting a reading on the external temperature on the dash. There's also an open circuit fault showing on the IID.

I've checked the connection to the sensor and the loom behind the right headlight and they appear fine. Anything else I should check before I take it back to the garage?

Yes, it was working fine before. I've checked the sensor behind the grill. It is physically connected but I don't really understand electronics!

I've done a vehicle reset with the IID. No change.

Does an 'open circuit' indicate that the sensor is faulty of that there is a wiring issue?

I was wondering if the loom may have been moved or disconnected when doing the work. They did drain down the coolant to get at the compressor.

Open circuit, means there is a no electrical connection. Its possible inside sensor but more likely either as I suspect the connector not made or a broken wire.

what the guys above said , plus just found this if it may be of any use to u

assume it's the correct sensor Whistle

http://www.disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/use...sensor.pdf

failing that , i would have thought the garage will resolve it for u seeing it's just come back

they may of accidentally caught a wire somewhere causing the open circuit or the sensor may of failed

If there are no obvious wiring issues it would be worth replacing the sensor.
The part number is LJTF000052 and £12 from main dealer last time I bought one.
 D4 2016 Landmark, Waitomo Grey.
D3 2005 HSE, Bonatti Grey, now sold but still comes back for servicing.
Defender 2002 Td5 Commercial, had a hard life but slowly being restored.
I only work so I can afford to repair my Land Rovers!

Thank you all for the assistance. I'll take a look at the wiring as best I can. If I can't resolve it, I'll take it back to the garage on Monday. I may as well let them see it as soon as possible rather than taking it back in 2 weeks!

Just for completeness, I took this back to the garage. They weren't sure where the problem was but after disconnecting the loom connections and reconnecting it all, it's all sorted. No charge.
