Problem on Front Diff (my05 & my06) |
|
I've been told (from LR dealer) that on some vehicles (my05 & my06) the front diff suffers from leaks (deriving mainly from blocked top piping). LR has issued a TBS and replaces the whole differential. Issue has been solved on my07 and on. My friend's D3 is in for a replacement (within quarantee)
1) Anyone had the same problem?
2) anyone knows the range of serial numbers affected from the above?
thnx to all

Interesting. When my March 06 TDV6 HSE was in for a service on 1st October, I was told that the front differential was losing oil and would have to be replaced, under guarantee (I hadn't noticed anything). There was no hint that this was a general problem; I just thought that the garage was being very honest. As it happened, I was away on holiday all the rest of October; the garage said that there would be no problem driving to Italy and back (maybe they didn't know how windy the roads are on Elba - I suspect the differential had more work than ever before!).
On my return, I arranged to take the car in last Thursday - only to be phoned five minutes before I left the house in the morning, to be told that they didn't have a replacement differential (the garage had tried to reach me the day before). Since then I'm still waiting. That doesn't seem the greatest service, since they had had over a month to get organised!
But I suppose the differential will be replaced some day!

What is the TSB number for this?
If someone has this TSB, I would be pleased to see it posted here or in my mailbox.

those with bad front diff - what does it sound like? I started noticing some intermittent faint whining coming from the front. Sounds a bit like the old trucks that had straight-cut gears, of course not as loud.

I just checked GTR and there is no TSB under section 205 (drive system), thus no TBS was issued on front diff. yet. LR D3 S Black, Auto TDV6

Mine (front diff) is weeping from the pinion seal and will be replaced under warranty - just waiting for the diff to arrive. I asked the obvious (why don't you just replace the seal?) and was told LR want the assembly back for testing...
Frankly a weeping diff seal doesn't surprise me given the work mine has done (several wet and/or muddy submergings, and lots of dust).
