OE prefix on JLR fleet vehicle.

As the title really, does the prefix OE on ex JLR fleet vehicles (silver D4) dignify anything a prospective purchaser should beware of?

Their fleet vehicles virtually all start with an "O", but there's no particular significance with "OE". However, it's worth being careful with all white and silver "O" platers, especially if high spec and black inside; it's a favourite LRE combination.

Thanks for the reply, there is one up for sale near me at a good price, one owner! top spec in silver with full LR service history, my research finds OE reg have been used on photo shoots for brochures and adverts.

All the manager car's will be OE, OY, OV etc, so likely to be a managers car. As above the LRE car's are usually white, it's been a very long time since I saw a silver one, not to say they aren't out there however.

I've bought three "O" registered LR's as "Approved" used cars and know them well.

It's important to realise that they are Land Rover Management cars, rather than Land Rover Manager's cars. There is a difference.

"Manager's" cars implies that they are issued to individuals in Management to drive. But what they actually are are cars that are registered to LR and then "Managed" by Land Rover. That means that they could be run by their staff or, for instance, used as press demonstrators, Land Rover Assist loan cars (I've driven a few of those (!), all "O" registered), or even leased to rental companies. My two "O" registered Freeloader 2's were both delivered to me in perfect condition and were none the worse for their experiences, but my green D4 "O" plate fell a little short of expectations and probably had a hard first year Sad

Here's an "O" plater in use as a press car for Top Gear Shocked

So, in answer to the OP's question "is there anything to be aware of", I wouldn't buy another unseen. It could have had a good life, or a hard one. I'd be looking at the condition of the underside, especially for body repairs and the condition of the lower half of the radiators - just to see how often it's been caked in mud and left to corrode!

OE isn't only JLR cars, just seen a 66 plater with big Eurotunnel stickers on the side after French passport controls (well complete lack of). Whistle

Unless they are registered as Land Rover Management vehicles and then leased to Eurotunnel?

Interesting, thanks for the replies. Is there anyway of tracing its history?

My disco is an OE Reg - it was/is immaculate, with 10k on the clock and all the settings were as it left the factory and the RSE remote was still in its box and unused! - the sat nav only had addresses around the solihull area entered so its now travelled a bit further to the Isle of Man - i am more than happy with it Thumbs Up

That's a good point about sat nav addresses. My good ones both had addresses around Solihull, especially Lode Lane Thumbs Up

My, slightly less than perfect, D4 had its history wiped before I took delivery.

I haven't found a way of tracing the history yet (other than checking the sat nav), but I'd certainly be checking the bottom half of the radiators for signs of regular immersion in mucky water.

I typed the Reg into google when I was buying mine and it came up with a Fleet Management Company who looks after fleet cars for Jaguar/Land Rover, Vauxhall and other major brands - I had a couple of issues with mine but all was sorted by the Dealer Rybrook LR

Hi,
I asked a couple of times to confirm who the first owner was (think they knew all along)
eventually asked to see the V5 to try and understand where it had lived?

My concern was the condition of the paint, Black and had lots of swirl marks even though it had already been prepped, they said another full body mop could be done but it just suggested it had not been cared for that well to start with Question
(maybe lots of washes, but with a yard brush Laughing )

Happy hunting but as Red Merle says best to see it in the flesh

Thumbs Up
