Air con compressor failure?

Hello all,

I've had my D3 HSE 2005 for about a year. The AC has never worked but I want to get it sorted.

My car has been in a local indie today having an AC pipe behind the battery box replaced due to a leak. The system now holds pressure and has been re gassed to correct pressure.

Unfortunately, the ac is not getting cold. The car is going back to the garage on Thursday for further diagnosis but I would appreciate any input.

I've plugged in the IID and gathered any data I thought may be relevant. It looks like the compressor isn't running. The pressure of 587kpa never seems to change. I think the pressure switch is fine at 5v.

Thank you for your help.

Bit of further detail.

When the engine is running, I can see the aux belt turning the ac pulley. Although the pulley turns, the spindle is not moving.

I understand the pulley does not have a clutch. Could the compressor be seized or the pulley failed?

Thanks for the replies.

No, neither pipe gets cold when the engine is running.

It looks like the compressor isn't running, so I imagine it is either faulty, or there is an electrical issue causing it not to pump.

Seeing as the spindle isn't turning, I am guessing it may be seized and the pulley is not driving it. Anyone know if the pulley is has a rubber centre?

After converting the pressure from PSI to Kpa, it looks like your pressure is about three times higher than mine. I imagine that's just the compressor not running?

I think you will find compressor turns at all times as there is no clutch, so ask yourself if the spindle is not turning why hasnt the spindle worn its way through the pulley and chucked the belt off?
Put a dab of paint on the spindle and Im sure you will see it is in fact turning.

Search variable displacement air con compressor to see how they work as they turn all the time they need pag oil for lube so non working a/c should be fixed asap before the lack of pag lube screws something up.

Stitch in time saves nine.

Hi!
Did You have to either flush all pipes and radiator or change them for new ones?
I have the same problem with mine AC and mechanics says that if the compressor dies it looses some filings/shreds and if You will not get rid of them you will kill brand new compressor

New pump can be had for £300, or new OEM for £400-ish
