Just bought a detachable tow ball safety plate from WILD R.

Managed to locate a tow ball on here (thanks for sorting me out 😎) and will be putting it on with the security plate once it arrives.

Will see if there are some sort of safety nuts I can get to use to secure it so a special tool is required to open it if not loads of grease.

It may not be 100% full proof but may be what stops someone stealing it again.

I suggest anyone who has their detachable tow ball on permanently to get one and fit it.

His number is 07866 609429

Thumbs Up

Haven't got one myself, but I've heard good things about Tow Trust towbars - http://www.tow-trust.co.uk/towbars/landrov...005+-+2017

(Can be found on Ebay for about half of the price on the Tow Trust website!)

Just a note from me, whilst Ryan's Security Plates are added safety and security whilst towing, I have used one for 18 months or so, they do not 100% stop the towbar from being stolen as to my cost I know, I was fairly religious in removing mine, but on one odd occasion, I dropped my caravan back at the storage yard and went straight to the NEC for the afternoon, came out and it was gone, security plate and all
Never leave it in when you are not towing, they will get stolen, £100 bucks later and I'm back where I started, Scumbags the lot of 'em
Just my 2p's worth

Like to add I just removed one that was we'll and truly stuck in there,I sprayed with WD40 quite liberally and let is soak then removed the green locking system (please don't ask)
Then tapped the tow bar from left to right, then tapped in and downwards and upwards with a heavy lump hammer ,not beating it to death I might add but hard enough and it started to move and eventually got it out, apprently the owner said it has been in there for ten years(2005 discover 3).(used on the farm 90% of it's time)
Surprisingly it was not that rusty and a good clean and new keys bought it now sits on my bench waiting to be used.
The owner said if I can get it out I could have it for £50 so we'll worth the hours work I think, probably will never use it but it's there with the car as it should.
So a suggestion go to a local scrappy bet there are loads of towhooks just waiting to be freed up and used again.

Leaving a detachable towbar permanently in place is a safety risk not just a security risk. Corrosion can occur between the towbar and the receiver in the chassis, potentially leading to the towbar becoming loose.

Detachable towbars should be detached, cleaned and stored when not in use in line with their instructions.

If you want to leave it in, you will be best to get a fixed

Well worth smearing the security plates bolts in the nastiest dirtiest grease you can get your hands on!
