Discovery 3 TDV 6 2.7 HSE/Camper won't start no cranking
Hi all Landy Lovers,
I am experiencing some severe problems with my Disco 3 TDV 6 HSE Camper / 2007. Basically the car doesn't start at all after I have change the ABS Sensor on the left side.
The typical disco light were flashing on the instrument cluster unit before I started to change the sensor. I changed the rear bulbs, the brake light switch and the ABS sensor too as well as the ABS unit.
I took out the ECU/ TCM module to see if the unit is dry which was positive, I thought maybe it is the immobilizer? Something is draining the battery hard but I couldn't find out what it is so far.
Anyway I am trying to figure it out since February and haven't got any clue now. Although tons of threats are written about similar issues and I do believe I made use of nearly all of them. Sadly they didn't work for me.
The following codes are showing up
P1623 Immobilizer
U0001 Highspeed Can Bus
U0010 Mediumspeed Can Bus
U0100 Can Bus Connection with engine control unit
U0132 level control unit
U0140 power supply unit
U0164 Can Bus air condition control unit
U0159 Can Bus connection parking assistant
U0122 Can Bus drive dynamic control unit
U0138 Can Bus four wheel drive control unit
U0184 Can Bus connection radio
B1A00 control unit
B1A81 Control unit navigation
B1A87 engine tailgate
I would very much appreciate if some of you might have any idea what might solve the problems or any suggestions what else I could possibly do.
I did buy a complete cluster instrument unit with keys, immobilizer, engine control unit, ABS control unit and I do wonder if I can replace this package without any harm to any other units of this car, which I do not know or do I have to reprogram anything - respectively only install it with precautions?
Kind regards
Rick

Hi, reading your faults, something related to canbus communication gone wrong, did you check the resistance at the medium speed can terminals?
First of all you have to find what is draining the battery,
the canbus network is well known to generate false DTC when powered at low voltages.

Hi Sidestick,
thanks for your reply. The mechanic told me it is an immobilizer issue and he can't do anything for me. I guess I have to try it again and find out. I wonder if it can be replaced?

Hi Martin,
I did change the left rear sensor. When I changed the sensor everything seemed all right for a moment. Ignition worked but still lots of fault codes popped up from body control module to audio. I tried to clear them but couldn't. After that the car didn't start at all.
Regards, Rick

I suggest a further inspection at the ABS pump wiring harness, from the connector at the ABS pump side back to 20 cm along wirings which usually sits bent for lot of years... Wirings on ours car are well known to crumble and a little short circuit is not so unusual - Easy-Lift suspension module 4.0

Hi Sidekick,
thank you kindly for your reply. I will do as you suggested. However I wonder why the car won't crank at all. If it is the wiring next to the abs pump will it stop the car from cranking?
I forgot to mention that I did send in the cluster instrument the company did soldering some cold connections. Do I have to re calibrate the cluster instrument (needles clockwise)? Could that be the problem as well?
Kind regards, Rick

Hi Rick,
as you can see from this scheme the high speed canbus control modules are connected with a ring configuration, CAN input / CAN output or shunt type.
If a ring-connected control module fails, the bus system fails at that point.
If a branch-connected module fails, the rest of the bus system is not affected by the failed control module.
Now if your issue has become after the ABS sensor swap, those sensors are directly connected to the ABS module which is at the end of the bus ring and in case of a fault at the ABS module the canbus data can not through that module generating a cascade effect trouble code on the entire bus.
From here my idea to check the ABS wiring and connector - Easy-Lift suspension module 4.0

Wow! Great I will do as you said and keep you informed once I got through the ABS module which will take a couple of days.
Sidekick - great help - appreciated!

Did you also checked the fuse 40 on the CJB?
From workshop manual:
The alarm indicator is located in the instrument cluster, below the tachometer. The alarm indicator provides information about the status of the alarm and immobilization system. Operation of the alarm indicator is controlled by the CJB using a hardwired connection with the instrument cluster.
For immobilization system status, when the alarm system is disarmed and the vehicle is immobilized (key out of ignition switch), the alarm indicator flashes once every 2 seconds. When the alarm system is disarmed and the vehicle is mobilized, the alarm indicator performs a 1 second confirmation flash (when the ECM confirms to the CJB that it is in the mobilized state) and then remains off.- Easy-Lift suspension module 4.0

Hi Sidekick, I think I did back in February but will double check it. CJB is the BCM underneath the glove compartment at the passenger seat isn't it?
That is defiantly worth another try.
Thank you!

Maybe you have disturbed the connector pair on top of the chassis on the rear left, and broken a CAN bus wire..

Definitely worth checking that connector, seems to come up often when having CANBUS issues.

Hi Sidekick and for all others a quick update.
It was the ECU which had a short circuit. The ECU is on repair right now and hopefully back within the end of the week. Needs a relearning to the vehicle. Is this possible with the IIDTool and what would be the procedure. The VIN isn't cleared in the ECU.
Thanks a lot, Rick
