Can anyone solve the unsolvable! |
|
Hi, I am hoping that someone can help me out,
For the last 2 months or so I have been having a very annoying problem.
I can be driving normally or like any other way and with no warning - "bing bing" from the dash and a loss of power, then Transmission fault limited gears available, is displayed.
Then it comes up with - HDC system fault special systems not available,
Then suspension lowered and finally accasionally it says park brake fault, but it hasn't come up with that for a while.
So I have to stop put it in park turn off the engine remove the keys then restart and it will be fine again for some times days, some times a hundred yards there is no pattern to it doing it only that I think it seems worse in hotter weather.
I have taken it to three different Land Rover garages both independent and dealer and so far (other than charge me a fortune to plug it in) no one can tell me what is the cause of this. One did suggest it might be a blocked fuel filter which I have changed even though it was only six months old.
I have checked the rear lights and all are working and the battery is less than a year old. My local garage (with out seeing it) thinks it might be the suspension air pump, but I am not sure that this is correct, I can't just spend lots of money and not solve the problem, Land Rover just want to keep putting new parts on it until the problem is solved!
But hopefully one of you guys can help me out!
Many thanks in advance for all your advice
Ash

I would rule out water ingress to the various electrical plugs
1 behind the nearside front inner wing plastic and
1on the rear nearside chassis rail above the spare wheel
1 behind the battery
cheap and easy to do
Next I would check the brake switch behind the brake pedal
What comes up when the codes are read?

I had same faults... Turned out to be altenator. When you say random ... I diagnosed mine by determining that whenever this happened it was 'backing off' while cresting a hill ... So from high revs to low revs which was enough of a volt drop to start throwing up general faults in transmission and suspension
3 culprits usually:
Brake light switch
Altenator
Bad brake light bulb

Many thanks for the suggestion so far.
I have got the print out sheets from the diagnostics at my work, I will post them on here tomorrow and hopefully you guys might be able to work out what's gone wrong.
Thanks again

Have you checked the brake pedal switch for greasy grunge on the internal contacts?

Hi I'm 3 months into this same problem
Work carried out to date!
Replace brake pedal switch
New brake bulbs
new ecg green and gunkey
New plastic sleeve in gearbox where the cables go in
New wires running to this plug because oil had ran up the sleeve and damaged them
All these this needed replacing but none solved the problem. I'm buying a new land rover tomorrow because I can't be without a car any longer but I won't give up I will find what's causing it. If there's any advice out there I could do with getting fed up now and slowly bankrupt!!!!!! The car is now back at Driver transmissions in Birmingham getting the box checked for the second time.

The fault may well have nothing at all to do with the transmission. My car was doing exactly the same and it was the steering angle sensor spigot moving on the steering shaft which caused confusion between it and some sensor in the gearbox. It takes 5 minutes to check. Like DM has said though, without reading the fault codes it's all guesswork. Jarrod

There's quite a few threads on it. Here's the one I followed when I repaired mine.

Mine was a wheel speed sensor, same faults came up but had a Nanocom at the time and that highlighted
the fault, changed the sensor (10 minute job) and all was good.
You/we need the fault codes to diagnose accurately.
