Sounds like the same fault as this post, http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic157690.html

I wonder if a transfer box calibration will work? Do you need an iid tool to do this?

Good idea, I will try a transfer box calibration. I know there is a manual procedure for this, although I'm not sure how well it works.

What OBD tool would I require to carry out this electronically?

Thanks

Calibration of the transfer case complete, unfortunately no difference in driving conditions. Also had suspension arm replaced and wheel bearing.

When you say you have checked the discs, have you checked the EPB shoes and adjusted them. Only a thought but at least cost free to check Thumbs Up

Hi yes, the Indy replaced the rear brakes a few months ago and adjusted all the shoes as this was on my initial list of potential problems.

Its a "locking up" sensation, creating a judder. It does it all the time if you put it into Rock Crawl mode, you cant even move forward slightly without it juddering.

Ok. Thumbs Up
I had to have the transfer box recalibrated after the oil was changed. First symptoms were a strange "grabbing" feeling when doing tight turns, ie reversing 90 degrees into a parking space. I think low range made it worse.

Sounds similar. It could be decribed as a brake sticking on feeling/differential locking/ABS judder or something similar. I'm convinced its something to do with the central differential, I just don't know whats causing it....

I know you were going to, but did you change the transfer box oil, and had the calibration done after the oil change.
I had no noise or vibration as such, just a grabbing sensation.
I was told it took a number of attempts for the recalibration "to take" ??

When i re-read your original post, i car't help thinking something is going on EPB related.

AV_Dave will be interested to hear what the outcome is with yours.

hugeviking no the transfer box oil was not changed, maybe this is something I need to get done then try with the recalibration. Do you mean it take a while for the recalibration to settle in, or does the process have to be done more than once?

Yes, I will keep you updated, I'm glad I'm not the only one with this strange problem, my gut feeling is my transfer box has an issue i may be wrong but it's all I can think of, my gearbox and TC where done around 15,000 miles ago and once moving without harsh acceleration it drives perfectly, in fact if I don't go over speed bumps or really put my foot down you wouldn't know there's an issue at all.

Yea that's exactly the same issue I am having. Generally you would not know there was an issue. When I took it into my garage last week, they test drove it for 6miles and were unable to replicate the issue typically. I tried to explain that it's only in certain conditions i.e. Speed bumps.

I'm sure it's transfer box related. Although there are several bits attachted like the actuator, solenoid and sensors and I'm not sure if it's related to one of these. Would like to before just swapping in a new transfer box.

Maybe the oil level is low ??
The work was done at the dealers, dont know what is involved, they just said it took a few attempts for it to work. When it was done the improvement was straight away.
Have you tried driving in circles. (Dont laugh) stop mid circle and gently pull away on full lock.

Not sure if rock crawl has somthing to do with brakes too, maybe on auto only. Others will know more about this.
