18" wheel as spare for 19" HSE..can I do it? |
|
Hi as per title,I only have a 18" wheel as a spare fitted with 225/60/18 tyres.
My car is running 19" wheels with 225/55/19 tyres.
Will it be OK to use the 18" as a spare/emergency wheel ?
Thank you

I'm assuming you mean 255 widths in both cases, yes you can use the 255 60 18 as a spare, it will have very close to the same diameter as a 255 55 19 tyre. I use a 235 70 17 as a spare........again, the same diameter as a 19" tyre. D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. New A/C Condenser.NO WARRANTY for many many years.

I had a 255/50/19 tyre on my front ns. the rest are 255/55/19 and got a bad vibration at above 60 mph and would not change up from 3rd revs were at 4000 .
got tyre changed to 255/55/19 all back to nice smooth gear change and ride again. so be careful .

Well that would NOT be compatible, a 50 profile is too small a diameter ...... Another thing to be aware of is, if you have the larger diameter V8 brakes fitted, you cannot use smaller than 18" standard LR wheels. Won't fit if you've got V8 brakes
There tight on a 19"
Originally my HSE D3 had 5 off 19" wheels
Later on I believe they came with space saver thing......yes it's a spare but not viable for long term use
Keep an eye out on here 19" they do come up for sale at odd times. BREXIT - done properly.

Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

Ah good advice ref the v8 brakes,I don't have them fitted at moment but it is a mod I planning on doing when the time cones to renew them.So if I do then the 18" wheel will be redundant?

Well the Advanced Factors advice is (and they supply the V8 brake kit ).... the minimum size LR rim for this upgrade is 18"..........so I would think your 18" wheel would not be redundant, but open to correction of course ............. BTW, there are many V8 SE's in the USA with 18" wheels, so I would think AF's advice is correct. D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. Check it out for yourself before you splurge......I've 19s anyway std HSE from day one
Thought about some 18's for (for winter tyres) & was told (on here) wouldn't fit 18's.....if I went V8
So didn't buy 18's
My D3's in the indies on Wednesday if I get the opportunity I'll ask & try out as I know they have some OEM LR 18's there on sale.
No harm done in asking - money spent = money wasted if you don't & there's a conflict.
There is a caliper upgrade that is possible that you have to have 19's for BREXIT - done properly.

Thanks again for all the info... Also now im thinking about v8 upgrade,am I correct that you can upgrade just the fronts?therefore if I do go that route then the spare would be fine anyway?would just be a case of needing to take a 19" from rear if the front wheel needed changing?

This is incorrect, standard 18" rims will fit over V8 brakes, it's 17" that don't fit.
I have V8 brakes front and rear and was running 18" until recently. IID PRO
