Purchase Advice Needed - 2006 D3 - HSE |
|
Guys,
joined this forum as I am looking at buying a Disco 3 very soon (viewing 3 this weekend).
One has caught my eye - a 2006 (06) - 2.7 Td V6 HSE 5dr Auto with 50K miles
Another is a 2006 (56) - 2.7 Td V6 HSE 5dr Auto with 90K miles.
Now the former is just over £2K more - both have full service history and MOT.
My question is, is the 30K miles difference worth the £2K increase, or are these engines/drivetrain etc only just bedded in and therefore it may be worth going for the latter?
Appreciate any advice.
thanks

Personally, at that age I would primarily judge on overall condition. An abused 50k miler could be a money pit over a loved 90k car!
Service history a must. Any historic receipts? One owner vehicle?

Welcome AlexMarsh91
I suggest you have a look at this:-

and scare yourself by looking at this:-

If you are buying from a dealer try to get them to fund a period of warranty from someone like
Warranty Direct, they might pay for, say 6 months, leaving you to pay for six months.
If you are not experienced with Discoveries it might pay to get an indy to inspect for you, if possible.
Good luck; keep us posted.

Id get the one thats done 50k and get a box flush immediately.
The box thats done 90k will more than likely need a new torque converter and other bits, which would cost you near £2k anyway.
Other than that buy on condition of the car. 05 V8 HSE Bonatti Grey

I would agree with Gareth, judge them on condition. Where have they been serviced, how many owners. have they been off road ? Have they towed something more than a small trailer, have they been smoked in
did the previous owner fart a lot These are things that must be taken into consideration.Good luck as I know it will keep you up at night both before and also after you get it The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything;
They just make the best of everything they have.

Try them both and see which you prefer one will be better than the other . 2006 is a very fine vintage imho. You're not afraid of the dark are you ?

Is this from a dealer? Looks like it failed on both lower suspension arms, which is very common, the rear bushes get a lot of grief.
But then it's passed the next day with only an advisory for lower arms, so I'd look into that. If it doesn't have 2 shiny new lower arms try dabbing at the brakes at low speed (5mph), if the rear bushes are knackered you'll hear and feel the knock.

I note that it's done 18,432 miles in the 12 months from March 2016 & 51.5k miles in aggregate.
There may be a change of ownership, from a low annual mileage owner to a high annual mileage owner. I would check the mileage at each Mot, and look at changes in ownership; maybe contact one or more previous owners to see if they can comment on the mileage
