I may have a chance of purchasing a roof rack but the one I am buying needs a full length roof rail and mine is only the short ones. Will i have to buy the full length or can i just buy the extra bit thats needed ?The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything;

The full length ones at about £160 for the pair.

So i can't get away with buying the extra bit for the front you have to buy the whole shabang ?The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything;

Mark, the after market full length rails are great value from eBay.
They are pattern parts but look OEM, I paid £115 for mine and you really cannot tell them from genuine LR roof rails.
Latest prices appear to be around £150 for aftermarket or £500 for genuine, you decide.
Gotta buy the whole lot, not just add on to the short rails.Mods:

Fitted my shiny new roof bars today ready for my new rack (Its like Christmas) Well come on,my wife spends £100 on a new dress £50 on shoes why can't i spend £750 on rack and rails If she asks it was £50 for the rails and £100 for the rack
One thing I would say is that if you are changing from short to a long rack use the bolts from the short and either use just 2 of the new ones or buy more from Landrover. The bolts that powerful UK sent were shocking. They were star bolts (At least thats what i call them) and they rounded at the first bit of pressure where as the originals were a lot stronger The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything;

tempted to get some but as I won't use them often, won't bother if it's a PITA to do..

It's worth pointing out, earlier model D3's will not have the plastic fasteners holding the trim down you will have to remove the trim, find the anchor point underneath and mark its location onto the trim before drilling. Mods:

That's correct Ian. Also in the top of the hidden fixing is a hollow grommet , take that out with a smalll screw driver or long nose plyers. You then find it easier to get the bolt in And not have to take the full rail off again
Hardware it's a very easy job. It must be as I managed it The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything;

Hi Mark hope you're well!
Have you a link for the long rails if they are OEM?
