HAs the bottom dropped out the second hand market for D3's

Just trying to gauge where my expectations have gone wrong!

I'm looking to sell my D3 2005 plate! full history (detailed)

I purchased it 16 months ago at what seemed to be a reasonable price compared to what was on offer at the time also with 3K of upgrades it seemed OK.

I've spent 1.5K on maintaining the car to its full service history including a a full gearbox flush last month.

Looking at the current market i'm going to lose at least 3K if not 4K over original price.

It was on 95Kmiles when i bought it but now has gone past the magic 100K (108K) not sure if this changes things!!

Does this sound right in your experiences?

Never had a car drop so much in so little time ;-(

What did you pay for it? It seemed to me when I bought mine a few months ago, after months of research, that there are two distinct markets for vehicles between 2004 & 2008.

One populated by vehicles owned by enthusiasts, who've maintained their vehicles above and beyond the bare minimum, who've taken steps to address known faults and niggles, and therefor want a higher price.

And also a market of vehicles that have not received this treatment, vehicles that have just been driven and used as a family car, minimum spent along the way. May have a full service history, but only the minimum.

Seemed to be a gap of around £2-2.5k between the two.

I have a 2005 SE Manual and like yours I would say mine has great service history and is only have been to my local main dealer. I too have done preventative upgrades and work.

I would love to get 12k for mine but doubt I would ever get close to that figure mine only has 80k on the clock too.

Good luck.

Please keep us posted.

It might be interesting to get a price from WBAC to get an indication of a "fall back" price.

Well i paid 3 grand for a early edition disco 3 manual. Probably the cheapest in the country. 130k on it and goes very well, has had all the mods done to it and a massive folder of history. I only wish that it was an auto. But at that price im not moaning Smile
I would pay about 6 for a disco 3 hse auto with full history, otherwise there is a lot of similar vehicles for less money.

Very strange all this, I did WBAC last year, started at £9k, but dropped to £5.5k when I entered in more of the details (One small dent in door, few scuffs), but then a few weeks later LR offered me £8k trade-in!

It's a MY08 with 120k miles, with the kit on it I think it's worth around £9,500 to sell privately, but only if somebody is willing to pay that amount (Full service history and work carried out when needed by local Disco sponsor)

Just looking at Autotrader, you can get an HSE of same age and similar mileage for around £7.5k from a garage. Most people seem to think, whether true or just perceived, that they have better protection from a garage, and would therefore want a better price from a private deal. Unless you have something to make it stand out from the crowd, why would people pay more?

As said above, look at the car buying sites for a minimum price, Evans Halshaw can be good as well as WBAC.

The extras and work that has been done is only worth something to those that want it. For 90% of buyers I expect they wont know the niggles/faults/character and therefore all the extra work done above standard maintenance is worthless.

Being honest, there's no way I would have paid what you did for a 10 year old, near 100K vehicle. I would have paid 8-9 and kept the rest in the bank for what-ifs.

I think unless you can find the right buyer, you're going to take a hit on this.

30 odd 04-06 HSE's for sale on Autotrader with 100K miles for anywhere between £7K-£11.5, but I bet the lower end of the market sells an awful lot faster than the top end. Especially when you can get 2008-9 cars for 10-12K.

Thanks for all feedback food or bad Sad

I'm usually vary carelful when i search for cars so when I purchased it seems comparable with others then.

Thats what surprised me now when about to sell.

When I was in the 4x4 garage having the autobox fluids changed The garage owner was telling me that a young lady had purchased a D3 from a garage for about 7.5K she took it to him for some problem when he inspected it it was a complete mess with bodges all over! in total it needed 4k spent on it. She left crying! Went back to the garage for recompense.....who did the usual and said not their problem...Sold as seen...buyer be aware!

You could also ask why are you selling again so soon, to some it is a danger sign when a car is sold quickly.

What did WBAC say?

D4's are available at around 15k now...

Being brutally honest, I expect you'll be lucky if you get 9k for yours, probably closer to 8k unless another enthusiast buys it
