How can I tell if my intercooler hoses have all been replace
Hi,
I have just picked up my discovery 3 from having MOT and intercooler hose change (I supplied the hose kit, 3 hoses in blue) same as discussed on this forum and I can see the top left hand under bonnet has been changed but can't see anything else. I put in off road height and looked in wheel arches and it appears that nothing has been disturbed, you know there are no marks in the grime on the covers. What is easiest way to check, is it remove nearside cover and look??? Sorry but am novice and not so agile otherwise I would have researched and done it myself

I think it is tricky to see all but the big one, I would have asked to see the old ones. Doesn't prove conclusively they'd changed them but if they were in the top of the bin or still on the floor by the lift you'd have a good idea!
How much did they charge you for the change? Just about to have mine done

Hi ClassikFan
I had a service and MOT along with hose change and the itemised bill shows as hose change £35 which in itself isn't a lot but they had the car on the ramps anyway so probably doesn't reflect true cost.
In the old days I would have had a go myself but my knees are knackered now. I might see if I can take off the inner whel arch cover and see something but I would rather know before i` struggledBelts, oil pump casing and water pump by Flack

I would guess at that price just big one that fails has been changed, if all three have been changed you've got a good deal It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Hmmmm, probably right but I supplied them with the proper 3 hose silicon replacement pack and I am not happy if they decided to replace only the one that is easily visible.Belts, oil pump casing and water pump by Flack

Land Rover say this job (all 3) is a body off job, so only the top easy hose will have been done for what you paid. Obviously it can be done with the body on but its not a 5 minute job. I'd get back asap to pick up your other 2 hoses!

Mick (Flack) did all 3 of mine a few years ago as well as blanking the EGRs & lubricating the turbo actuator. The bill was not a lot - can't really remember how long it took but it can't have been any more than 3 hours including drinking tea.
Think you can see the smallest hose if you take off the heat shield in the near side wheel arch.

The small one looks fairly straightforward with the egr valve and associated cooler removed, the heat shield on the side would help enormously too.Jarrod

For the medium one there is an inspection cover - four panel clips at very front inner pass side front mudguard. If you put both hands together it's about that size and has 90 degree bend in it.
For small hose ... undo but do not need to remove heat sheild (reposition only) just behind centre of front pass side wheel - 3x 10mm flange nuts .... Will need to jack car on pass side for access.

actual the medium one you can see - see first photo. The small one try to look up from under the car behind where the heatshield indicated. If the medium one has not been changed - don't try to look for the small one - it will not have been changed as it is significantly harder than any of the others.

by way of clarification - the photo of the medium hose is after removal of cover. now you know where it is try to get under the car to look up -pretty sure you won't see it.

I would go back to where you bought the 2 hoses from and tell them you made an ordering error to see if the will send you the small hose for the upgrade (to 3 hoses) price.
Personally I wouldn't bother - these small hoses don't split. Where this small hose joins the turbo is much better suited to a rubber hose ... It's essentially got a circa 10mm recess where the clamp 'forces' the rubber into to seal the join. (The other 5x joins all have raised nose flanges) Silicon doesn't flex in this way so won't seat into the recess (at the turbo - silicon is too stiff) You need to get t-bolt clamps (see post by gstuart) to seat these properly.
If you enjoy working on your car - then it's a great job for you .... I just want my car to go like it did yesterday- if you are like me then buy the hose a put in garage awaiting body off.
