Compressor

Can anyone please help.
I keep having a fault coming up normal ride height only. Ive been reading up that it may be the dryer on the compressor needs changing. If I stop the car and restart the engine the ride height will go down to acces then back up to normal and be ok for a few days.
can I change the dryer myself is there any information to explain how to if necessary.
Thanks in advance

If you have a Hitachi compressor you can service the dryer. Not sure about the AMK. Have you checked if you have the Hitachi or AMK? I'm not sure when the switch-over happened or if any D4s were fitted with Hitachis. My 2009 D3 had a Hitachi fitted so you may well have the same.

That said, there are lots of other potential causes. Have you had the codes read? Another common problem with the Hitachi is hairline cracks in the end cap. You can check for this with a spray of soapy water.

There are pictures of the AMK and one or two of the Hitachi (including end cap) in this thread.

As above. Check for any airline cracks first you can buy new modified caps

So first thing is to find out which make the compressor is.
I've had a look is it located under the big panel drivers side. This is different to a D3.

I thought it was in the same position as the D3. Just in front of the rear wheel on the LH side?

D4:s can have Hitachis but they were changed to AMK at some point. My 2011 D4 has the so called early AMK type. I had an air leak where the dryer meets the compressor body so I have changed both the larger seal and the dryer media. I took the compressor of the car without undoing any air lines as they were fused to the pump but it is not difficult to remove and refit the dryer with the compressor loose from the car but still attached to the air lines. I used the kit from this place www.4x4airseals.com. There is also a video of the proceedure (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0SJCjj2Ukc). I also had occasional "Ride height only" and when checking codes I had C1A20-64 "Not filling the reservoir fast enough". Can´t remember the exact phrase but similar. All that is now gone and has been for the last 24000 miles.

Oh, and the compressor is in the same place as the D3. Left hand side just in front of the rear wheel.

Ok update removed the cover today looks to me like its a Hitachi .Managed to get a photo and looks like its been replaced as LR are not going to put white marker over it lol

cleaned the cover, copper greased the bolts and put back together until I decide what action to take.

I did however use some magic spray (wicked 40 ) on the height sensors and so far no fault has returned

let see how it goes next step will be dryer Thumbs Up

Date code on it - 090803 - suggests it is original.

The white pen will be from the Hitachi factory.

Think I can safely say the compressor is Censored
This morning had errors again. Tried to raise the car ,very slow on the rear front did nothing. Then got message system needs to cool before normal height can be selected.
So me thinks new compressor anyone know where I can get one quick

Advanced Factors do both the AMK and Hitachi (direct) replacement types. Give them a call.

Been back out to it again I've left it a few hours. Suspension goes up at rear and takes forever to go up at the front. Off road height got no chance of doing.

Advanced factors full compressor kit £370

I really just need some advice before I spend the money.

Thanks

funny thing today its been perfect rise and fall but , had the cover off the compressor and even with the car fully adjusted to the height setting it ran on for quite a while.
