I think I need carbon ceramics....

Maybe just not on my D4 though...
Pretty impressive, and certainly makes you appreciate the attempt to harness the energy lost under braking.....

Shocked
Next time Lewis gets on the radio and says "my brakes are cooked" I hope they tell him to stop being so soft, and get on with it Laughing

Maybe another reason aircraft tyres use pure nitrogen?

Copied from Wikipedia

The gas is mostly used as an inert atmosphere whenever the oxygen in the air would pose a fire, explosion, or oxidising hazard.

Another reason for using pure nitrogen would be consistency of supply. To pump aptmospheric air into the tyre would be subject to all sorts of variables such as humidity, and pollutants. Both of which could cause potential issues. Pure bottled nitrogen is just that, pure!

That clip reminds me of the advice to never stand for too long next to an aircraft tyre after it has just landed.

I used to get the opportunity to occasionally drive some of the test vehicles belonging to the vehicle brake manufacturer my dad worked for and alot had temperature displays for each disc amongst the plethora of kit - it was incredible to see the temperature changes from even slight braking. Most spectacular was heavy braking in sub-zero winter conditions Twisted Evil
LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.
