Now power to aircon blower

On the off chance someone may have an idea...

Driving along - blower cuts out - and won't restart

Lights still working ie., dial / recirculation / econ / off etc.

Following all the advice / suggestions on here, I have swapped the relay and checked fuse - no joy.
Have bought new Blower Control Module (££ ouch) and replaced - still nothing.
Removed motor, put 12v across - works a treat - so think that rules that out??

Put a Volt meter across the black and white wires on the blower motor connector and turned the dials up to max - no voltage - assume it should have 12v to power the motor?

Have wiggled the wires a bit too just in case its that - nothing.

Any ideas before I deposit it at dealer to sort? Think I have exhausted all that I can within my limited ability.

Thanks.

Hi Mossy, I'm not sure if the blower motor would register a fault code to aid diagnosis? Have you got a code reader?

Hi Peter, Pretty sure on the fuses and relay - swapped them according to diagram using known redundant working relays (rear aircon which I don't have fitted). The 40Amp fuse is intact too, but I guess no harm in having another check in case the swapped relay is kaput (spelling??).

Gareth, you'd think the 12 years I've had this mota I'd have invested in a fault code reader, but whilst it has always been on the list it never quite made it to the top. Good time now maybe?

Have a feeling "she's" playing up as I've had a D5 on test recently and maybe feeling a little un-loved!!!

And here was me thinking it'd be a simple job I could do myself!

If your passing by Stockport, your welcome to pop in and I'll plug my iid tool in to see what's logged? No idea what to do to fix but at least it would be a step forward?

Appreciate the offer and not too far away - I'll see how I get on "wiggling" things today in the hope its a connector issue or something. Thumbs Up

Pointless update but here goes...

...Checked the relay again - switched it with another disco so I know its fine, fuse is fine. No switching action (ie I can't hear it switching) when blower is when turned on or off. Am assuming the BCM is not faulty as new and I know the blower itself works. No obvious wiring issues - all seem well connected and seated as should be. Simply no power getting to the blower.

Unless there's a short or a broken connection somewhere and I doubt I have the will or technical ability to find, then I guess it is ECU-type problem and again, not something I think I could fix.

Just closing the loop! Big Cry

Ask Robbie as Im sure I read an excellent write up he did on how the system works, Iirc its a pulse width modulator and it varies the negative side and not the power side, but check with him first!

Have you checked you're getting 12v at the relay? I'd guess feed and trigger would be 12v.

Remove relay.

Turn ignition on and set fan to on.

Go plug relay in, if it clicks in your hand as you plug it in, then there is a wiring fault with the white wire to the fan.

If it doesn't click I would suspect a problem with the feed from the climate panel green/white wire.

Could it possibly be a problem with the plugs behind the control panel? I can't see from your posts so far that you have looked at the rotary switch or its connections.

Pete's suggestion with relay only tests the trigger feed. Relay would still click but if no feed, no output.

From what you've posted, you can test for 12v on feed and trigger.

Less likely is no earth, poor earth ?
If you've got a multimeter test resistance to a known good earth.

Yeah put a meter between white and a good earth (cigar lighter body)

with ign and fan on

see if you get 12v
