Fault code reader

I have noticed that one or two of the folks on here use this fault code reader:

MaxiScan MS309

I know its cheap & cheerful, but is there any issue with one of these, purely to read and maybe clear codes if needed?

Just want something to leave in the car in case of emergency

Unknown to me but the Icarsoft I930 and its various other names is quite good for reading/clearing codes.
Unlike the elcheapo readers the I930 actually reads all the l/r systems even down to the rear entertainment.
IID is the dogs whatsits but is 4 x times the price of the I930 worth it yes.

I've got one of those (ebay £10) that i use on our other cars (mx5 and rav4) but havent tried it on the disco as i've got an IID. It's useful for checking and clearing fault codes ( power and transmission only) but i did try it on a mate's Defender and ilt wouldn't work. Could of course be that the obd port in the standard position is a dummy?
