I would agree we don't know all the facts and the Police are doing a grand job in the current heightened security situation.

However he did say van arrived without blue lights on, parked applied blue lights, went into shop came out with shopping, turned off blue lights and drove off.

That suggests he was not in a rush to get shopping for an emergency otherwise the lights would be on when he arrived and still on when he left.

We have the facility to go to shops when at big incidents for food/water and other welfare supplies but not on blue lights.

Waylander....

Don't apologise for some thing that isn't wrong (you posting that is)
You saw something of interest...like lots on here besides D3/4's
Others (including me) read & commented...it's a forum after all....it's what happens.
...not witnesses to the event at all - opinions expressed

But parking where he did - what could possibly happen ?
..someone reports him to the Police ?.....Oh he is the Police
..maybe a nasty traffic warden will issue a ticket ?.....possible & could be awkward explaining to his senior officer.....even if his bacon bap was a bit cold
..or maybe someone will notice & write it up on a forum.
 BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.

No one is above the law. Simples. Thumbs Up

We are all speculating on the circumstances depending on our point of view. Without reading anything into it, if the OP feels it was out of order, report, that's not virtuous, it's common sense.

No one is above the law but I'm sure most of us on here have 'bent' it a little in the past whether its speeding, parking or whatever just to suit our needs or convenience.

For what they get paid, the risks they take and the Censored they deal with, I have no issue with this.

That's an impossible arguement, justifying someone else's actions on a broad statement that we've all contravened a law. I dare say we have and some of us have also been warned or charged with an offence too.

We expect the highest standards from our Police, for them to be accountable and rightly so, and if they fall short, then there are procedures in place to take them to task.

I don't believe in giving them a blank cheque to do as they please because a very small proportion of them have a tough job recently. You do, fair enough, let's agree to disagree.

The other side is for the vast majority of Cops who do abide by the law and have integrity, then Cops that bend the rules actually do them a disservice.

Almost the only vehicle without lights on during my commute in heavy rain and spray today was a police traffic car. Conclusion? Coppers are humans too and thus not infallible.

It's an argument for recognising the difference between law and statute/legislation. The key being that the law, is not what is made up by politicians or bureaucrats, nor judges, but the reasonable expectations of the populus at large - as such it is about real needs and relevance rather than made up rules. The legislation, on the other hand, is just the legislature's interpretation of what is already the law of the land. If there is the general agreement and expectation that a certain bending of the rules is acceptable and not posing any issue, then that is in fact the law, and what is written on the vellum is not. Thumbs Up

(PS: This is not a judgement on the specific case either way - just the broad point.)

Back to the OP chap seems self centric and should not have parked and turned lights on. It seems a fair interpretation that he was applying the law of this suits me best! Some people including policemen / women are selfish but I guess we all sin.
