Servicing a Warn winch
I recently discovered that the brake on my Warn winch wasn't working, so the winch just spooled out under load even with the gears engaged.
So - I googled the solution & discovered a new brake assembly was required (circa £220).
Thanks to the boys at Devon 4x4 for their YouTube video: which gave me the confidence to strip down and rebuild the winch myself.
Including removal & refitting to the car - probably about 6 hrs work.
One tip I'll give..... Fraser recommends marking the positions of the parts before removal. Great advice. However - de-greasant is very effective at removing felt-tip. Suggest using a touch of paint, or masking tape - something that won't come off when you're cleaning all the parts up!1981 Unimog U1300L (ex German Army vehicle
