Best rear camera location for towing/hitching and stuff
Hi,
Im looking to fit a rear camera for reversing but mainly to aid trailer hitching. Is the numberplate light the best place or are there better places?
Im going to do the RR screen hack to put it on to the satnav display, so do you have any recommendations for specific until that work well (links/part nos appreciated), is it a lot easier to use wireless or is wired easy enough?
Thanks.

Number plate one is ok once you get used to the off set or buy one you can move the screen around to suit i fitted one there and also fitted one in the tow cover which makes it very easy to hitch it was just a cheapo from ebay cost me about £8

From experience of rev cams on trucks, for total accuracy you need it high, the ones mounted at knee level dont give any real feel of depth perception, the ones at the top of the body you can be almost inch accurate anywhere.
Of course how you mount it so it blends in i dont know, but some of the remote cameras the new trucks use for their dash cams are quite small under 20mm diameter.
Standard fit number plate camera, you can just see the ball of the detachable towball.
Be careful with the number plate cameras on auction sites though, buy from reputable sources, know of two that have melted.

Thats why i have 2 one for general and the lower one for hitching as you can see the complete ball easily
And a switch from here to change between the two of them

Great feedback so far, thanks.
Any thoughts on wired vs wireless and also any recommended (non melting) ones!

The wireless cams don't have a very good reputation tbh, go wired, very stable image and not as difficult as you'd expect to route the cable.
The hardest part is getting the av plug through the rubber sleeve at the top of the tailgate, the rest is simple enough. Mods:
Front Fogs + Halos
FBH Remote Control
The 1st Ever RRS Modded Grill
Garmin Nuvi + D4 Surround + Reversing Camera.
D4 Steering Wheel.
Rear Boot Spoiler.
Twin Brake Lights.
Wing Mirror Indicator Repeaters.
Long Roof Rails
Make your own Narpy grill thread
I'm not scared, I'm outta here.
Wireless Cameras tend to be fine until the point you really need it, then picks up some interference and lets you down. Then when you don't need it it works perfect.
