ECT Sensor location...?

Need your help guys and girls...
Trying to sort a misfire and, assuming it's a sensor somewhere, I'm trying to test them... One of the suspects is the engine coolant temp sensor, but I cannot for the life of me find it... Been shown in a diagram, it's on the top hose, but nothing there on mine, also, on the N/S head, on the fuel block? This info was given by a specialist, who also assured me a sensor wouldn't cause a misfire!?
I've found the oil temp sensor, but I'm assuming it can't be the only way of telling the ECU how hot/cold everything is??

Stand in front of the car, in the middle of the grill.
Look under the bonnet, and it's right infront of you.
A grey? connector, on a right angle, in a 3/4" water pipe.

Under the bonnet, inside the engine bay, rather than 'outside' in front of the rad? Reason I ask is I only remember seeing one infront of the rad, but didn't know if it's in a pipe or not?

Thanks for your help!! Very Happy Very Happy Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Yes under the bonnet.

You may need to remove the top engine cover

I looked earlier, with the cover off, but couldn't see anything, but, I've been told so far, that it's in the top hose by the airbox (think it's there on later models, to be fair?) and, by a specialist, that it's on the side of the head, left hand bank... Although, they also said a sensor won't cause a misfire!? Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes
I'll have another look in a bit...

Found this earlier, but, going by the approx ambient air temp, the test meter didn't read anything like the values I've got listed, plus, if I unplug it, the only affect it has on the car is that the temp gauge reads off the scale...
This bourne in mind, I discounted it and assumed there's a seperate sensor for the ECU?

Cool, in that case, I think I can rule that one out... If, when it's causing the misfire, the gauge wouldn't read correctly?
