'Project Hero' Discovery comes with a drone!
Quote:
At this year's Geneva Motor Show, Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) has unveiled a bespoke version of its new Land Rover Discovery designed for use the Austrian Red Cross.
Called ‘Project Hero’, the so-called "advanced communication vehicle" comes with a roof-mounted drone and a landing system with self-centring and magnetic retention technology that lets the drone land on Project Hero when the vehicle is moving.

The lack of a split tailgate doesn't seem to have been a major problem then

I'm liking the black 19" alloys. The smaller wheel doesn't look too bad.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

The black rear number plate insert makes it look a lot less 'odd' at the rear. Making a feature of it instead of it being body colour.

Sorry to burst your bubble but its just PR. These will not be coming to a disaster near you any time soon.
In disaster zones the key is reliability and flexibility. The D5 we know is capable off road, but it is an incredibly complicated vehicle that needs specilaist knowledge and technology to fix it, and who's design compromises its practicality and versatility. Simple pickups are far more versatile, practical and can often be fixed locally. Remember the old Red Cross LR Series, 90 and 110s?D4 HSE EU6 (Known as Jeeves)

You know it wont happen and so do I. It didn't happen with the D3/4 so why the D5. However, the drone tech might well work, but there is already a lot of research and activity in that area already, so nothing new. D4 HSE EU6 (Known as Jeeves)

Mrs ronp is a traffic coordinator with British Red Cross, so I'll ask her to request that these D5's go on the fleet.
But somehow I doubt it as they'll be considerably more expensive than the 110's they already run.
Unless of course JLR kindly donate a number of vehicles (as they've done so in the past).
I might even volunteer to be one of her drivers if they do.

After that it will be spending 12 months with the Austrian Red Cross.
