Gday All,
I am just wondering if / why this is needed. I assume its because the starter cable is also used as the charging cable for the Alternator and is incase of a dead short in the alternator .
A few years back I ran a dedicated alternator cable which has its own inline fuse , so the main starter cable is just for starting. So have a couple of questions,
- is this a sealed unit ? or can it be opened up.
- seeing as tho I am just using the cable as a start only cable , do you think I still need the mega fuse ?

Yes it can be opened up and the fuse inside can be changed, nothing special, I have changed a few and got new fuses from ebay.

Fuses are there to protect the cable against shorts to metal work.
Their rating is decided based on the size of cable used.
