Hadn't thought of that, though unless it's a low mileage box it'll have the same TC issues shortly ahead of it. Plus a lot more hassle, especially as I'll be off on a 6k roadtrip in 6 weeks time, hopefully in the D3.

Yea, must agree "slightly" out of warranty, by time as well as mileage. Can understand your reluctance to use them again. But perhaps the would fix at cost as goodwill ??

Will phone them on Monday. Getting totally stressed over this, where I'd normally not let these things get on top of me. Oh the joys of an old car.

I'm kind of in the same dilemma myself! As my D3 is with the gearbox it's not worth much at all but can I justify spending £2.5k on something that won't add any value to it?!

Just spoke to BT and have it booked for them to have a look at it. Their thoughts are test run, mega-flush (at £300 + VAT) and Dr Tranny. The chap I spoke to did stress it was out of warranty so not expecting any help there. Plus the cost of a mega-flush is 1/3 way to a new TC. Not sure re Dr Tranny as well, some peeps think that is wonderful, others that it just masks the symptoms and doesn't cure it.

Before I had my TC replaced I hade the judder and used Dr Tranny. It stopped the slipping TC for about 18 months and 20k miles, some of which was towing the twin axle caravan. So, if Dee3 is not doing many miles and not working too hard it is probably worth spending on. But you could do the Dr Tranny without changing the fluid to see if that helps. If it does, then go for the flush and another two tubes. When I bought mine it was £12 a tube.2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

I had the same judder about 2 years aga and the same as you Dr Tranny provided a temporary 'cure' but having now seen a torque converter cut open and how the lock up clutch works I am not sure whether DT is a cure or whether it just allowed the clutch to slip smoothly without juddering.
I would be interested to know what other peoples thoughts are on this.

I think Dr Tranny is a temporary fix as it changes the characteristics of the "paper" attached to the friction plate. However if that surface is worn, you only defer the inevitable.
Del, if the gearbox is ok, I can't see why a new or refurb TC should fail so soon. My TC failed due to water in ATF from a failure in the radiator. Did you have that checked?2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

ISTR that was checked when the TC was changed, but it had a new rad fitted shortly after the TC was fitted. I'm wondering if I was too late fitting the TC and had reached the stage of needing the box refurbed. Anyone know if a TC with 18k on it can be fitted back in the box after getting it refurbed or has that trashed the TC en-route?

Just the TC was replaced, and the gearbox was not refurbished at the same time?My D3 Build Thread
