connecting an iPod, in glove box - best solution?

this is the head unit I have in the D3 with the HK 7 sound pack:

I've bought the DAB unit to run behind the headhunt and I'd also like to run an iPod, which would live in the glove box - are these head units geared up to run a CD loader? and therefore - is there a conversion lead already out there which would enable me to plug in and power an iPod?

Many thanks
Ben

Watching this with interest as mice ate my iPod cable and a new OEM one is ridiculously expensive and the cheap Chinese knockoff cables blow up the car electrics apparently...

as you can see there hasn't been a blistering rush to answer this one! which I'm quite surprised by as I would have thought others would be running an iPod for music rather than CDs.

I think with this head unit you can load 6 CDs into it through the one slot in the front, so perhaps there isn't a lead out which would normally go to a CD loader?

my DAB unit arrived today so I'll be having the head unit out shortly so then I'll find out what's back there. I ideally wanted this answer sorted before then so I could buy the lead and do the install all at once when the unit was out, but never mind!

ACM = http://media.disco3.co.uk/ownerinfo/LR004805_L319_ACM.pdf

I don't think you'll find anything suitable by way of connection on the HU itself. Most use the ACM (which gives you some level of control integration) or, as I did, a Belkin or similar adapter in the glovebox which boosts the signal level - you can tap it into the AUX audio in the passenger footwell. Another option is Bluetooth to a receiver in the AUX input in the 2nd row.

wiggs (site sponsor) might be the best person to speak to regarding the HU itself.

Right at he beginning of having a Disco 3...

I had installed the LR kit for an iPod classic.
Consisted of: Holster on dash behind wheel, a unit in top glove box that takes a USB stick
To use this you press the AUX function on head unit (mines an HSE) then steering wheel controls
At the time thier were other solutions knocking about as iPods popular.

This works & works well. Sound & control wise - uses steering wheel buttons.
The exceptions:
- Won't go to AUX condition via voice....which isn't a big deal.
- The actual cable into the dash mounted holster had to be replaced after 7 years it developed a break....parts still available
- The iPod is very visible....thinking about it now...a straight forwards plug into to iPod cable in glove box.

I don't believe this kit available now. Things moved on in the iPod world to a different plug & to the world of Bluetooth.
I like many others have & still use the original iPod Classic....160 gigs means you literally have the lot with you. I have a whole menagerie of iPods Classics.

OK.
Some days ago I posted a link to a new voice activated DAB system on here
Radioplayer
http://www.connectmycar.com/radio-player-car
I wondered if anybody had got one or had seen one ?

Which in Octane magazine had a two page ad....£189..00...fitted.
DAB is for me a "like" as opposed to a distinct "need"......I listen to BBC Radio 4
Before I plunge I need to see one in a vehicle & know how this mates up with my existing set up.
I'm not prepared to lose the iPod via AUX function.

But have a good look at thier ad & website.
 BREXIT - done properly.

D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.
