Can a Walbro petrol LPFP be used to pump diesel?

Here's one for the ear tuggers and chin pullers!

Anyone have long term experience/results in replacing a Disco3 factory diesel LPFP with an equivalent spec Walbro petrol LPFP ?

Discussion on USA forums where they run diesel in a gas fuel pump ...... http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/general-4x4...-pump.html

The Walbro petrol pump physically fits as a replacement, but what pump internals would stop this petrol pump from successfully pumping diesel long term?

Would the viscosity/chemical difference be a problem, or is it just in the marketing.

Peter

Good grief !

I'm amazed at this website link
A whole industry out there of alternatives & guys who've tried.
Reading down it would appear some are successfull

But why not just the OEM part ?
 BREXIT - done properly.

D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

Lots of advantages, but mainly cost as we now have to buy the complete in-tank kit and not just the pump.

I believe the OEM is a Walbro pump with a LR part number, which doesn't match any Walbro part #.

Could also be as a remote travel "get out of jail card" as it's only a small spare part to carry.
