Major fuel leak

Diesel p Censored g out from under D4 luckily almost right outside my mates house. Nothing visible under the bonnet it's all from underneath. Now dripping front to back off the chassis where it's leaked so will have to sand the road.

What's the usual suspects?

Useless recovery guy said it's under the undertray that runs front to back on the offside. To the rear of the engine, running a down towards the back I know door
But he claimed he couldn't get it off. Is the fuel filter under there? I think it must be the fuel filter that's leaking. It starts leaking when the ignition is on, even without the engine running. Any help or ideas appreciated.

Tempted to try and drop the tray here at my mates before trying to arrange recovery.

Sounds like he's describing the fuel tank cradle, I think the pump is in the tank.

I didn't realise the fuel tank was under that. So it could be any of these components leaking?!

You sure thats a D4 tank image looks D2 to me?

Could it be as simple as the fuel filter water drain screw is loose/damaged?

The yellow knurled bit

I think you're right about the D2 tank. Google fail there.

Hopefully it's something obvious and visible. It had its 7 year service a couple of weeks ago so presumably the filter was changed then.

It's being recovered home at 11, I plan to take a look at home where I have tools.

It was parked in a field all weekend Shocked

The tank is about 3/4 full. Thanks for the diagram, the recovery is due in about 30 mins from my mates and hopefully it will stop raining enough for me to take a look at home Sad

The clue will be the fact its just been serviced so something left loose or knocked, hopefully cheap/simple fix
I was always told thats the most dangerous time in any vehicles life right after its been worked on.

Okay had the middle plastic undertray and the heat shield around the fuel filter off. The plastic water drain off has slipped it's thread and is loose, and can not be tightened even after removing the filter cartridge itself. Looks like a faulty part or has been over tightened on installation.

Have left underpanels off on the drive and will call servicing garage first thing. Would hope they send someone out with a part to resolve tomorrow.

Got lots of diesel drips on the drive and the car stinks Evil or Very Mad

Thanks for all the support and ideas chaps Thumbs Up

Closure on this one - the garage came out and rectified it on my drive. During servicing, they had refitted the yellow water sensor to the new filter (apparently normal practice) but the yellow thread on the screwed-in section of it had subsequently completely snapped on Sunday, causing the leak and meaning it wouldn't stay in the filter. New filter and sensor fitted, no charge (not that I would have expected to pay anything!)

Going off to local jetwash later to give the underneath a good spray, we have left the undertray off for now to try and get rid of as much diesel as possible.

Will be paranoid about it when driving for approximately 3 months now going forward Laughing

James
