Road speed related noise / vibration
Hi,
I've just updated my old faithful Disco 3 to a 2014MY Disco 4 HSE (60k miles) - private sale from another LR Club member. The car is wonderful (only had her on the road for 1 day) however there is one annoying issue I have with her.
After starting off there is an minor vibration / hum / buzz that increase with road speed to the point at 50mph she sounded as if it was held in a lower gear and this can be felt through the drivers left foot rest. When slowing down towards a stop the noise slows down but I would almost compare it with a Chinook helicopter type noise but not as loud. First thought was tyres, as the new spare had been put on the front and we tried swapping it back for the original wheel when I first took her out which seemed to reduce it a bit. I've now had the front jacked up and the wheel bearings don't appear to indicate any wear (seller has kindly offer to pay if they need doing!) so I'm convinced that even though the front tyres have plenty of life left in them that they could be the cause.
Sorry if this has been covered before but from experience has anyone else had a similar issue to validate my thoughts before I head off any buy some new tyres?

Mine sounded a bit like that When I got it (used) and the noise increased with the miles.
The problem was solved when I replaced the General Grabber ATs with Michelins.Andy

My BF's make a noise like a worn wheel bearing at slow speed, then like wind noise at higher speeds. You get used to it.......
