Rear difflock V8 HSE

Hi all,

Going to be using the D3 in Lesotho.
Is there a way to find out before hand if the rear diff is actually locking.
I have IID tool but are not yet familiar with it.

All assistance appreciated.

Prior to changing the diff oil I had a look above the rear diff following advice from here. Mine a none locker so has no "bits n bobs" on top!

Easiest way to check, if you've got the satnav screen, is put her in low box and rock crawl, put the screen on 4x4 info mode and move forward slowly. If you've got a locking rear diff the both padlocks will show locked. If no rear locker then only the centre one will show locked. LR very unhelpfully put the padlock symbol on the rear diff whether it's a locking version or not.

Will give it a try , thank you.
Was actually hoping the IID tool can "lock" and "unlock" the diff.

They are not designed to be locked all the time i don't think they would take that sort of punishment i assume you would like to use it like a lsd Thumbs Up

As the car is mostly used on tar I doubt that the diff has ever locked.
I have heard from others that the component that is there to lock the diff may sometimes get "stuck" and subsequently not lock the diff due it not being used in conditions where it needs to lock.
I did get a fault message in the past -something like "transmission problem" which apparently relates to the rear diff not locking or being faulty.
This message disappeared after the engine was shut down and restarted.
