Brake pad warning message |
|
The other day while driving along, the check brake pads message started appearing every time I went over a bump but not when applying the brakes. On visual inspection, wheels on, there appears to be plenty of substance on the pads (both front and rear replaced last year). There was however a loose (floating around) brake warning wire on the nearside front. Now the check pads message is on always. Could this loose wire have caused the initial message to appear and now needs resetting?

The pad wear indicator works by the wire being grounded out or disconnected , I suggest your loose wire is now permanently touching the body somewhere , is broken or disconnected. Once it is reconnected or repaired the light will go out. Resetting is not necessary .

They're only about £10 fro most motor factors, and a pretty easy DIY job.. Just follow the old harness and find the plug, make sure you clip it back into the correct places otherwise it won't be long before you have the same problem
Bare in mind there may be a small piece broken off in your pad, this will have the be removed before fitting the new one.
Just be gentle when fitting it into the pad as they are pretty fragile.
There is only 1 on each axle, N/S/F and O/S/R.

Did you get a good look at the inner pads?
Could be a sticky caliper wearing the inside pad more than the more visible outer pad.
I had this recently, outer pad still looked like it had plenty of material, inner was nearly down to backplate.
Pad warning light was on.

Just to close this off - fitting a new £10 sensor cable extinguished the light.
