used car dealer service pre delivery

I am due to collect my new to me d4 at the end of the week, it is on a 15 plate and only done just over 5000 miles. it will be two years old on June 1st and dealer has told me it has had a used care service and will not require another for 12months. However, on questioning it is difficult to get a straight answer when I have asked if they have changed oils and filters etc or just given a general top up. Does any one know what is or should be included in this used car preparation service?

Many thanks

Phil1

Main dealer? I'd insist on seeing all the paperwork.....and quiz the service manager on what was done compared to what should be done at the prescribed service. Check against a LR maintenance schedule; some of which can be found on here Thumbs Up

Service history is now online insist on a copy of the previous service for your records.

I would ask for next service to be either done before you collect, or as I did on mine ask for next service free of charge. Smile

The vast majority of used car dealers do not carry out a service to manufacturers standards, even if under warranty

Mostly, it's an oil and filter change, an MOT if req, and deal with any failures...

Thank you for all the responses. I have been back to the dealer twice and they insist the car has ben serviced to Land rover requirements as a used car and that this complies with warranty which is two years. They say that all LR dealers follow the same rules!

There is no such thing as a used car service.

The service schedule is the schedule. Yearly or mileage, whichever comes first and each service has different things done. There is no such thing as an oil service. Find the service schedule, then request what was done at the previous services and check they marry up.

What happens on service?

Or should happen
Stolen link from a very recent thread
http://media.disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/u...20MY10.pdf
Dependant on which one:
Oil & filter change. Right oil right amount put in
All relavent levelscthen checked lubricants & fluids
Mechanical checks.
Brake pads & discs - if bellow specific parameters. Replaced. Hand brake checked.
Reference schedule above - checks applicable.

Then the detailed inspection, judgement & report.
Suspension parts - which for a heavy duty 4WD SUV has to be done - no other way of finding this out no electronic gauges on vehicle or in any dealer.

It's this bit you pay for & what should be there is data from someone who knows this vehicle
- hardly likely at Kwik-Fit or Halfrauds
- highly likely at a good Indie (my preferred route)
- should be very much there at a main dealer, when you realise readin opening post not the case
- DIY - if you know what you are doing have the kit & time to do it - piece of mind + economy.

Virtually anyone can take a vehicle service "on".....whether it's right at the point of completion is dependant on the knowledge, experience & attitude of who does it + possibly policy of dealer.

They are accepting the last service work done to vehicle was done properly at time stated at your risk.
I'd ignore the dealer & find local good indie. Piece of mind.
 BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.

D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.
