Newbie Question. parking brake

We've bought a low (ish) mileage 2010 XS with extras.

Question is, should be parking brake apply automatically? It doesn't appear to, or at least the parking brake indicator does not light up unless applied manually.

Sorry if its a daft question, a bit confused from the handbook

Thanks

Paul

Mine never does? Although it does disengage automatically when you drive off. Think that's normal?

That's the same behaviour I'm seeing. Maybe its the keyless entry that adds automatic epb.

Loving the car.

No it doesn't, from memory i believe D3's used to, but if you stop turn off and get out then i believe it applies the brake

My D3

Didnt have auto brake as delivered.
I had mine programmed to apply at ignition off.
It's works well as the brake is being used.
 BREXIT - done properly.

no apply automatic...only release automatic as you pull away...can also be released manually.
ALSO acts as emergency brake....pull and hold on...will stop car in straight line...you hope....think it works with the hydraulics and ABS for this bit..

The EPB was engaged automatically in case of D3 manual transmission models and turning ignition off.
The EPB wasn't engaged automatically with the D3 automatic transmission models. You had to engage manually with the automatic models ..
Hope this is not too much of a confusion Whistle

Absolutely right...what I was told by a dependable dealer.
Mine an auto has been programmed to hand brake on when key taken out.
Simple, quick effective fix
Keeps H.Brake good.

However the H.Brake has to be looked after.
MOT fail if you don't.
Cost if you don't.
