D3 specialist in Finland?
Hi,
Does anyone know of, or even better use, a good Disco specialist in the Kotka area of Finland?
My 2007 D3 has developed a vibration from the front drivers side (LHD) when braking and also at 100-120kmh... think it might be an arm problem but wanted someone with expertise to check before I set about changing them !
Cheers

Well not found a specialist but was recommended to http://www.uutelaracing.fi/ by a colleague, very professional ex rally driver (aren't all Finns?) quick confirmation of my diagnosis, (bushes that were fine a week ago have just gone in the space of two days !!)
Parts ordered now just wait for them to arrive... but if anyone can get Powerflex bushes out here quickly then I'm happy to buy them a beer or two if they make it out here (and beer costs a lot more than you think!)

There used to be at least one, vauhti-vaunu, but the whole company filed for bankruptcy a few weeks ago. In Kotka vicinity there aren’t others as far as I know. Delta is present there but they do not have LR expertise in that city even though they will service any make and model.
If you can get to Helsinki there are at least the following:
- Delta (official LR service)
- SCC (I think these are official too)
- Karaasi in Espoo (www.karaasi.com), independent of a good quality and really nice guys
- Autorep (www.autorep.fi), another independent of quality and also really nice guys
Hope this helps and good luck

Kajtzu, many thanks!
Still waiting for parts to arrive but will continue to use (sparingly) meanwhile... if you see a UK reg white D3 with snorkel, winch bumper and black D4 grille give me a wave

Happy to help and give back.
The forum has been priceless to me in the short time I’ve been on here and the months before I lurked and read up on various topics on D4 and D3.

Priceless can indeed be defined in many ways I find the knowledge on disco3 to be excellent and most likely someone else has written about a problem or done it before. The community is kind and helpful.
Only two packages “in the air” or on a truck somewhere, right now....

Hi Kajtzu,
I'm planning to make a winter tour in Finland next Christmas with my standard DISCO3.
Do you have any suggestion how to prepare the DISCO, considering the low temperature and snow?
Do you think it is possible to arrive to Rovaniemi in a easily way?
Thanks.

Hi,
Please check my answer on the webasto forum regarding another’s trip to Nordkapp for a long list.
I would add to that the following as his car was a petrol one and yours is a diesel:
Make sure you arrive with a fairly empty tank as you want to fill up with “talvilaatu” (winter quality translated word by word). It has a very low cloud point (-29 oC) and filterability (-34 oC). I think up north they also sell something called Arctic in the middle of the winter where the corresponding figures are -40/-44 or similar. Winter quality you can get “anywhere” in the country. It will usually be the default and the diesel pump will have a sign stating what kind of diesel you can pump from it.
Assuming you enter the country in Helsinki via a ferry you can take a car train to Rovaniemi.
Other than that good luck and have fun up north

Don't forget to have your cooling system flushed and replaced with "winter grade" anti freeze (rated to -35!) just had mine done today at Offroadpaja near Turku... along with replacement front and rear bushes and ball joints, diff oils, and a few software updates.. this place is a sweet shop of old Land Rover parts! It's already cold in Finland so will not get much warmer until next spring!

Didn’t realize there were other kinds of antifreeze, “everybody” puts the winter rates stuff in.
Glad to hear you found a nice place to get your disco in shape

UK rated is only usually down to -4, had mine checked today as i wasn't sure, good job too as it's been -4 here for the last couple of days! Now rated to -35 so hopefully covered for this winter!
Also been given details of a specialist more local to Kotka 😁

Thank you very much guys.
A lot on info for me.
Do you think i'll be able to drive from Helsinki to Rovaniemi in Dec-Jan?
Or the train is the only solution?

kajtzu,
Superb info in your previous post!
I'm just off out to find some silicone, do Tokmanni have it ? If not I'll wait until I get back to Kotka..
Cheers

You can certainly drive it but please don’t do not attempt to do so with summer tires. Some kind of winter tires (studless will be fine as long as you’re on a road) are required for your own and safety of others.
