Disco fire

Some poor Censored lost their Disco today

I was driving up the M77 I think it was, on my way to Kilmarnock when on the other carriageway there was a smoldering disco and caravan, fire brigade in attendance but the Disco was gone, just a burnt shell
caravan looked ok from what could be seen

Hope everyone was ok, feel sorry for them

tried to get footage from dashcam but found out it had only recorded twice today once this morning and then again afternoon, so i need to rectify that.

This seems to be happening a lot, what is the weak point on the disco that causes it.

Disco fire

Hi, this was some friends of ours coming home from there first weekend away with the caravan. Fully loaded with 2 kids etc. They are all ok, caravan survived. Apparently they've said it was caused by a dodgy phone charger plugged into the 12v socket that caused it. Car was a d3. Cheers Rog.

Oh dear Sad That's really nasty, good to hear they're all okay though.

It was hot enough for the bonnet to disappear then Shocked

Just read another post and the bonnet is alloy.

Im no fire expert but is seems strange that the front of the car is totally wiped out if the fire started in the cabin?

The passenger cell including the roof is high strength steel, wings bonnet doors skins all alloy, so they will burn.

Although it does look like the fire started in the engine bay. Could have been fuel leak, or possibly alternator short out, but I don't know how much effort the fire brigade would put into finding the exact problem?

Interesting you say that. There has been an instance at work where a charger started a smal fire on a vessel. Luckily it was contained quickly etc. It was put down to a dodgy charger. The one in question was a dodgy eBay copy, not a genuine charger. We have been told to only use OEM charging equipment no onwards.

Apparently a large proportion of house fires are due to phone and I pad chargers. Along with tumble dryers.

Lot of coverage a couple of years back on dodgy copy phone charges start house fires - first time I've heard about a car one though ?

It is often copy chargers and not just for phones but we also see a lot of issues with batteries going pop and catching fire whilst on charge
