Daughters wedding
On with writing my speech for my daughters wedding tomorrow.
This is the second of four weddings in 6 weeks with a funeral in between.
Friends, daughters, friends and brother and friends funeral.
Surprised but maybe not their are companies out there that will write your speech for you.
Trying to keep off the pies today so I can fit into the suit.

I will start you off.
"Unaccustomed as I am to public speaking .....
Seriously, do one off the top of your head, no notes.
Seriously...don't. The one time I seen someone do that he absolutely failed. Father of the bride and ended up walking round the room totally out of words and lost. it was so uncomfortable.
Write it down, practice it, keep with you for reference or if you know it well, just have notes/prompts.

Daughter married -divorced-married again.
Second speech was short and sweet. Went something like this.
" well you all heard what I had to say first time around so I'll just shut up and sit down" .those who weren't at the first bash just had to ask someone who was.
The only embarrassment I had was financial.

Definitely agree with the above..... I do a fair bit of large audience presentations and there is nothing worse either than death by PowerPoint or someone reading from a prepared speech....
Be natural, be yourself and enjoy the occasion... have a couple of one line prompts but please please don't read your speech!
Moreover enjoy the day! You will definitely be the proudest man in the room.... don't forget to have a conversation with the groom beforehand to remind him of his obligations!! Tell him you have a lot of mates on the Disco3 forum who will find him if he misbehaves!

Well it's finished. Going to use PowerPoint with mix of some pics and a very short video.
I agree it's better to be spontaneous. Used to public speaking but it's always a bit strange at weddings.

It's easy at weddings, there a set lot to thank and then it's freehand. Jesus, it's not the end of the world if you fluff the odd line. I am sure you be fine and a lot less mechanical than reading notes or PowerPoint.
I went to a posh Wedding in York years ago, where the mother and father of the groom were divorced. The father an ex Squadron Leader, an absolute legend, first pilot to clock up 1,000 hours on Jaguar Aircraft, had a bit too much to drink when he made his speech and announced to the gathered audience that he hoped his sons new wife was better in bed than his ex wife.
That caused a bit of a stir. His two other sons took him away pretty pronto. I can tell the story now as the poor guy is dead.

Notes - essential you don't want to get things mixed up in the excitement of the event.Rob Smith
Silver rools OK
have to agree ... notes are the right way. just be ready to deviate a bit if you're comfortable.
I did my "best man" speech almost as per notes but the groom was in his RAF uniform and bride's dad was the vicar so I started with "As you can see, I'm the only one who's not turned up in his work clothes ..."

My advise would be Q cards rwad it put it down, you will be interrupted and with big a4 pages it will take time to find where you finished , Q cards not as much to go through to find your place. talk slow (not too slow like a 78 on 33 ) dont rush enjoy
