If you get yourself down to your local Lidls fast they might still have their 12v oil extraction pump in. Only £12 Thumbs Up

Dipstickless engines...

Not my favourite technology - I have one on my pride & joy - not by choice.
Not being able to let oil drain away from an open dump is ridiculous. A simple proven technology.
My concern is the complete removal of sludge that can & will build up over time jeopardising the cleanliness of the engine oil.
What's the advantage of not having a simp plug ?

Will it or should it be a sump pan off jog at 50-60k mikes ?....is this already being done ?
Only removing a sump pan & actually looking will confirm this.
Modern synthetic oils do last longer & do better - but they have to hold & contend with more sludge / debris due to longer oil change out intervals.

..& there's no magnetic plug to catch worn off stuff.
 BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics

Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

THEY ALL HAVE A SUMP PLUG Rolling Eyes

Get underneath and have a look , extraction tubes just make the job quicker and get all of the oil out anyway

As founder member of Dipsticks R Us or some such group Whistle he's ranting about dipstick less engines, no dipstick doesn't mean no dump / simp plug Whistle

I suspect the XK live the D4's still has one too

As regards the dipstick cause - it continues unabated

Beanie.....My sincere & abject apologies for the iPad predictive text....I'll blame me for not checking my script before pressing the "send" button.
Yes your right it's a SUMP plug which if it's there you would or could use...
The XK I have has a sump plug (part number JAJ8-8461 - original OEM one cost ££6..04) an adapted one with a magnet..a bit more.
The extract pump "gets all the oil" out - but if you watch a sump draining it comes very readily, with sludge too.
Yes I know my D3 has one of these sump plugs too....haven't a clue about the models years of the D4.
Many thanks for the text correction.
If required I could remove the two lines about dipsticks from my profile settings....but a bit of fun may turn into a business opportunity !

I remember hearing that TDV8 engines do not have a sump plug (admittedly this doesn't apply to the D4 obviously) - does anyone know if this is true?

On the topic of sludge...The sump plug is there if you really wanted to drain from the bottom but I don't think its necessary to do it every oil change. There shouldn't really be a build up of sludge and the vacuum extractor should be fir to lift any small quantity there may be.

but if you change the oil every 15000km, you haven't sludge on oil sump......... this is one of the key point of a good maintenance....
