hi guys
I'm looking to get an up to date OBC tool that can do every car including Land Rovers,
I'd like it to be a code reader and deleter and live engine running info, exhaust gasses.
I'd like it to work with my iPad/iPhone and be fairly idiot proof.
Any recommendations please ?

OBD = on board diagnostics
Most generic cheapy code readers will do what you need ie read codes, delete codes and display basic live data, the live data normally includes the readings from the lambda sensors on petrols not sure if they read the nox sensors on the diesels?
The problem with a lot of cars incl land rovers is the changeover from their own make specific readers to OBD with land rover theres a blank in between this includes the td5 disco and the P38 rangie lots of readers will plug into them but will only read some systems.
I think as the cars get newer they are easier to read as they all talk much the same language.
Plenty of pro stuff out there but very expensive and normally have an annual update cost.
Might be worth popping into your local garage and see what they they use, bet they have more than one make of kit.
The cheapest for the land rovers is the Icarsoft I930, some good vids on youtube will show you what it will talk to.
There is of course the IID tool but like a lot of kit its one make specialist stuff, like VCDS for the Vag motors etc.

I purchased a Launch CP129 professional and it covers 47 different vehicle manufacturers. It was well worth the money

Easy to update and did not pay the silly price that dealers are charging as I bought it on Ebay. So far have used it on Ford, Volvo, BMW, Land Rover, Skoda, Seat and Audi with no problems. D3 TDV6 S MY2005

We take delivery of a new (to us) D3 shortly to replace our current D2 Td5. I have a Hawkeye which is licenced only to the Td5, and also an Autel Maxi plus, which i had to get to communicate with my wifes BMW 5 series.
I am anticipating the need for plugging the new car in, and am wondering which route to take? Its expensive to buy an additional licence for the Hawkeye, i am not certain if the Autel will do the job? Which leaves me with the icarsoft you mention, which is far cheaper than buying the Hawkeye licence. I would prefer not to have the expense of the IID if i can avoid it.
Opinions would be gratefully received.
