So those of you that do the Facebook thing may have noticed the loads of adverts for stuff on there. There have been some quite nice Mugs on there for Wives, Daughters, Mums etc etc. So being a bit stuck for something for SWMBO's Birthday I decided to buy one. Cost with P&P from the USA $30. A bit steep but she is worth it........ 
After 4 weeks it has not arrived. Checked the tracking and it is in the UK, via DHL and showing at their depot for 2 weeks. Contacted DHL and was advised that the supplying company only pay DHL to get it to the UK, it is then handed over to the Royal Mail with no tracking........... They advise most likely now lost 
Contacted the company and as I had paid via Paypal got a full refund, although due to the currency exchange I actually lose £3.00... 
Today, 5 weeks later, a card from Royal mail gets put through my door advising me they have my goods. £3.20 customs charge and an £8.00 handling fee........£11.20 on a mug worth less than $23!!! 
You have to really watch out for these charges.......... ------------------------------

Mike, I bought an item from the US a couple of years ago. Paid with Paypal. I tracked the item across America to an airport at LA. Then it flew across the pond and reappeared at Heathrow. Then it travelled up to my local Royal Mail sorting office who within 24 hours had it listed as delivered but I'd never received it. Royal Mail didn't want to know as they said they'd posted it. Paypal didn't want to know because it was listed as having been delivered. Despite having tracking details, I couldn't get a refund.
I'm certain my postmans wife got a very nice present that Christmas.
To cap it all, you cannot take litigation against Royal Mail as they have immunity to prosecution and despite involving the police, they couldn't prove anything but were understanding and also reckoned the postmans wife got lucky.  Mods:
