MOT question re headlamp washers

Daft question re MOT time.

Got the MOT for the D3 booked for next week and noticed the rhs headlamp scusher isn't playing, got xenons fitted. Do the headlamp washers just have to be there or do they actually scush them? I have a set (well 2 sets) of halogens so could bung some in, but only if needed.

Thoughts oh MOT wise ones out there?

D

If it's the same as over here then they will have to work. If the other side is fine, then it's likely a blocked line or jet. Are they awkward to get at to try and clear it?

Usually, if they are fitted, they have to work irrespective.

From the MOT Inspection Manual:

MOT Inspection Manual wrote:
Vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) or LED dipped beam headlamps may be fitted with headlamp washers and a suspension or headlamp self levelling system. Where such systems are fitted, they must work; however, it is accepted that it may not be possible to readily determine the functioning of self levelling systems. In such cases, the benefit of the doubt must be given. Headlamp washers may work in conjunction with the windscreen washers (when the dipped beam headlamps are switched on) or by a separate switch.

Thumbs Up

Just attacked with a safety pin, no joy. One side working, other not. And no dripping from under the car on the duff side so doubt a hose disconnected. Is it one pump per side or does one pump do both?

Cheers Steve, that clarifies that. Sad

Just out to check what fuses do what, if that doesn't work she may go back to be a halogen car for a bit.

Single pump, with a T piece Thumbs Up
If one is working, it's not a fuse

It could be a weak pump, blocked jet, or trapped pipe from when the bumper was last removed Thumbs Up

One fuse does both. Sad

Which begs the question, one pump for both side or one pump each side?

Cheers Mike, bumper hasn't been off for a fair while (years), will have another wiggle with safety pin. If that fails on go the halogens. Thumbs Up

I don't think they scoosh every time the windscreen washers do?

When the lights aren't on they schush first time then every so many after that. No joy again trying to clear the nozzle so must be bunged up.

Just been out with the compressor, nozzles not blocked as can blow air in one hole & get spray out the other, and vice versa. But nothing with the headlamp washers. So pipe must be blocked or trapped further back. Not worth the hassle of taking the front end apart to track it down, it's something I can easily live with.

Has the system got the pressure operated anti syphoning drain out valves in the actual small lamp washer pipe work ? ....those not in place (I've tried it) one headlamps washedvthe system can empty itself....
Just wondered if was the same (..no I have got out & got under....currently can't.)
Other makes of vehicle I have had with headlamp wash & wash-wipe all had these anti symphony valves that look just like a pipe fitting...blowing in one lamp nozzle it bubbles from the other. Is a test......but doesn't back flush the little valve I've mentioned.

Looking at the on screen parts diagrams isn't that clear....
