Chaps - swapped my winters to summers week and half ago - today thought my spare looked a little low, sure enough it was loose. I tightened it as much as I thought I could when i fitted it. I really dont like these latest spare winches with the hook fitting. It was much easier with the bolt type that had the ractchet/torque feature.
I have just retightened, about 3/4' of a turn, but can you "over tighten" and/or snap/damage the cable?

Doesn't the latest type have the ratchet, tighten until it clicks?

Nope - neither of my D4's seem to have had this
