I would agree with Roidster, albeit we dont know what alternator you bought.
Ive learned very quickly in my disco 3 ownership that electric power is king on these, poor current, bad batteries all contribute to amazing faults showing up.
Firstly, what alternator did you buy/fit
Who fitted the alternator? If you did it yourself, did you make sure all cables were attached securely.
It certainly sounds like an alternator problem, as if the reg/rec on the back of it is faulty/wrong, or if its totaly wrong for the discos thirst for electric.

There have been all sorts of weird faults down to alternators on here. Lots of them were down to cheap ones, lots of them were even down to refurbished ones fitted by main dealers! I assumed you had fitted either a really cheap one or a refurbished one based on the £100 price you paid because a Denso one would cost min £199 if you shop about. Denso is OEM fitment by the way (so same as original).
Last question, was it ok before the alternator went wrong?
Batteries can be taken out by alternators failing but usually they fail big time-as in dead 2005 Discovery 3 HSE

Did you move/disconnect any cables whilst fitting the alternator. I would start there especially around earth connections

Have your battery drop tested as well.
My battery tested ok, at 12.2v static, and 14.7 running,
However, it dropped below 9v when starting.
It also failed a 600 cranking amp test, when its a 900 crank amp battery.
If the battery is indeed ok, then unplug the alternator and run the car. The battery light will be on, but if it runs ok then you know the alternator is screwing the system.
Youll need to clear all the codes that have been stored now before doing this.
