Sadly - politicians are elected to power (well most of them are ) they make decisions...but than they off.
They dont have the lasting involvement or for that matter commitment.
where are Camerdooooom & Osbourne right now ?BREXIT - done properly.

The question you really should be asking is:
What government ministers stand to make money from this deal?
Clearly, it's not good value for the UK, so who is it good value for...My D3 Build Thread

Why is it not good value for the UK?
What alternative low-carbon generation do you believe provides better value?
It involves the French and Chinese paying £12bn and £6bn respectively to build it, of which around £10bn is likely to be spent in the UK.
If the plant doesn't generate power the UK consumer doesn't pay a penny toward it.

Finance it wholly in the U.K, and keep all of the money spent within the U.K.
Stop involving the French/Chinese companies involved, who are set to gain massively (financially) at the publics expense, via higher energy costs...My D3 Build Thread

So, assume all the technology and execution risk money in the UK, without control over many aspects of the project to gain some extra element of the spend and returns vs taking none of the risk and still capturing maybe 2/3rds of the capital spend and investment in the UK?
I think the Government has, unusually, taken exactly the right tack on this by having a known price of supply and not being subject to the potential for cost over-runs that are quite possible/probable with projects of this type.
I think the likelihood of cost and time over-runs with the UK trying to do the project all by itself would be massively higher than with the French/Chinese.
If the project were low risk on cost/execution it'd be easy to raise commercial funding for it at low cost, but it isn't, hence the French state dipping its hands into its (taxpayers) pockets.
Thankfully, Macron seems full-square behind the project.

The Government is much better to concentrate on supporting small/modular nuclear, where we have better prospects, while supporting those elements of the supply chain for large scale nuclear that will come from the likes of the Hinkley development.Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

Anyway happy independence day everyone!!
All things shipping, storage, transport. UK and worldwide.
.....I think the likelihood of cost and time over-runs with the UK trying to do the project all by itself would be massively higher than with the French/Chinese......
But none of us on here really know the capabilities of the "Chinese" (I apologise to any persons who object to this descriptor).....my research is that thier industry is about 14 or 15 years old, they haven't got the background like the UK's going back to the mid 50's.

The French nuclear industry is well established with many power stations (somecwere closed down when Fukushima occurred.
It isn't that clear just whose of what type reactors the U.K. new power stations will get
Just trusting two offshore companies with a very large set of projects & hoping they will be on time on budget - without some evidence either have done this before isn't to me enough to denegrate what the U.K. actually "do".
We aren't at a point where the projects can be halted - that's been tried already & we got our wrists slapped.
How the heck (with two 'L's") did we get into this mess.....who could have done this ?BREXIT - done properly.
