You need to pick a number to do a trade deal with Trump but that was never clearly said in public. Trump whispered that in the hear of Theresa May when they were hand in hand during their meeting.

Theresa May did not tell anything to the EU because they did not invite her for the celebrations in Rome )bad guys are already punishing her) and it seems she managed to get number one.

Trump in the meantime tried to approach Angela Merkel to trade with her and Angela told him that he could via the EU but that she wants to be number one and it is not clear if Trump accepted or not

Trump now is trying to understand what the EU is (and given that it is complicated and messy it might take a while) but I am sure he will say something soon regarding this on Twitter so stay tuned Laughing Laughing Laughing

EU prepares for post-Brexit membership for united Ireland

European leaders are preparing to recognise the potential for a “united Ireland” within the EU, confirming that Northern Ireland would seamlessly rejoin the bloc after Brexit in the event of a vote for Irish reunification.

Europe’s leaders start sounding tough over Brexit

Britain and the EU are ending the week with relations over Brexit once again looking hostile.

The frostier tone was set by German chancellor Angela Merkel on Thursday, when she warned the UK against harbouring any “illusions” about getting favours from the EU in Brexit talks.

Emmanuel Macron, the centrist candidate for the French presidency, followed up last night by pledging to renegotiate the Franco-British treaty that retains migrants in Calais if he becomes head of state.

Big meeting today

EU holds summit without UK to formalise Brexit strategy

Quote:
European Union countries are meeting in Brussels to discuss a joint strategy for negotiations with the UK over Brexit.

Twenty-seven countries will be present, but the UK will not take part.

The EU will insist that progress must be made in talks on separating the UK from the EU, before any discussions can begin about future trade relations.

Official talks between London and the EU will not begin until after the UK general election on 8 June.

In a letter to leaders of the EU-27, European Council President Donald Tusk says agreement on "people, money and Ireland" must come before negotiations on the EU's future relationship with the UK.

It's not about a united Ireland but the border between the two and whether free movement for the Irish and Northern Irish will continue.

my take on this

Canburne wrote:

it will be a BREXIT negotiation issue.

Northern Ireland voted wanted to remain - overall vote but not by county.
- the Nationalists (Sinn Fien SDLP,) always want to unite the 6 northern Irish counties with the 26 in the south
- there is a strong Sinn Fein movement in Southern Ireland - it wasn't there before but it is now Gerry Adams is leading this. Less said the better - he isn't liked over there. his sort of politics isn't popular with the majority of Irish people as it has links to the trouble in the North. More than links actually.
- the southern Irish constitution doesn't now allude to making a united Ireland - this was altered in 1984 in what led up to the Hillsborough agreement. Thatcher & Garrett Fitzgerald brokers & signed this withe zero involvement of the MP's who have seats there. Which at the time caused a massive amount of bother, i live there at that time.

.....so we are in the Brexit process - Northern Ireland by vote want to remain - there isn't a Nicola Sturgeon equivalent there or likely pop up to pursue this.

Hard (ish) borders did exist in the times up to the good Friday agreement - the bad "trouble's" times - but a hard border for security & customs not right of passage - no passports. you can walk skip or leap across.

What preceded the EC was on the whole much the same that sort of results from the creation of the Free state "Eire" / the 26 counties / Republic. You've got thread quite bit to get the history from rising 1916 up to now to see the constitutional issues between the UK government & Ireland. Its complex.

Specific factions would like referendum of all Ireland to decide on a 32 county state - which means Northern Ireland becomes part of the whole thing.
is it likely to happen ? in my humble opinion NO.

So what will happen is Brexit & sort out of a border that can control things:
- Customs has to be one issue.
- Access for people movement another as if passports have to be shown at ferry ports & airports coming in to the UK...it in my mind would have to be done here too.
- Security - was an issue, could be again. Bit of a worry on this one.
Currently its two distinct countries with separate everything - government, police, administrations, but effectively work very much together.

Note: my view only btw..I realise this living north or south of the border will have other views & ideas
 BREXIT - done properly.

One of the most difficult problems to solve due to this stupid brexit, are the only 2 land borders between the EU and UK, one is north of Ireland and another south of Spain ... difficult solution will have the free passage Of people without border control in order to distinguish the previous citizens of Ireland or Spain from those who are not in each case without requiring them the presentation of a passport Shocked Shocked

Why shouldn't these be used ?

Permanance

This looks of interest

And good old Donald...laying the law down before it's even begun...who pulls his strings ?
https://uk.news.yahoo.com/eu-leaders-meet-...00487.html

It's a negotiation not he or they make the line that we have to follow...or am I seeing this a different way
It's already been said the issue of land UK/Ireland border is on the agenda....can the EU force what the UK have as regards the physical, actual border crossing - not immigration but daily crossings by those actually there. Saying it can't be a "physical hard" border means they the EC are insisting a single market condition has to remain for this one detail. A chink in the stance ?

another...
