Factory Bluetooth on which models?

Hi all,

I'm looking for our first Disco, likely a 2005, so I know what I'm looking at can anyone help me with a Bluetooth query.
I've seen a contender, a 55 plate SE and it has the phone buttons on the right side of the steering wheel, so I assume this was an option as the wiki http://www.disco3.co.uk/wiki/HSE#UK seems to say the only the HSE models get. PTI as standard.
The bit confusing me is I'm seeing a number of HSE models without the steering wheeel buttons, does this mean they don't have the Bluetooth phone? Or are the buttons an add on feature above the Bluetooth?

I'm generally a bit confused as the specs don't match the wiki in a lot of cases, for example this SE doesn't have front PDC buypt the wiki says it would.

Thanks,
One confused Disco shopper.

No D3 model was equipped with Bluetooth phone prep as standard, it was only ever a 'factory' option. Those that say otherwise only confuse matters, sometimes deliberately.

Factory phone prep was always an option.

Nice to have factory kit but having had factory kit and also one with a Parrot kit, I found the Parrot was far easier and quicker to use.

I think so......Install a parrot and forget it, you will never have a problem, even when updating your mobile phone, I think it is the best option, there are parrots with very discreet controls that hardly see

For those commenting of the factory Bluetooth performance and capability it would be helpful if you explain your experience and the version of Bluetooth installed. Having installed many different systems I have yet to find anything superior to the D4 Bluetooth modules (actually first used in late-D3s). Nothing else comes close.

But the Parrot, I do not think it works worse than the original LR and has the advantage of being able to remove and sell it or use it in another different model car.

If it doesn't have the red/green buttons it won't have factory phone.

I wouldn't let it sway your decision though

Way back in late 2004 I ordered my SE with Bluetooth - only to be told later that it was not now available due to technical issues, Brother in Law's slightly later model on a 55 plate had it

Robbie is right - D4 Bluetooth is great - never a call clarity issue, voice dial fine - only problem I have is it will sometimes sulk when I swap from a personal phone (Iphone) to work phones (was BB, now Samsung) - cheers up and connects after stopping and re-starting

Thanks everyone, that's really useful to know.
I guess I'm a sucker for factory integrated BT and I'd heard good things on call quality on this forum and I prefer not to see wires or extra boxes of buttons.
I keep seeing S models for sale with HSE wheels, so I now wonder whether to go low, not high and replace the head unit with something more fully functional inc Bluetooth & maybe throw an iPad mini in the cubby hole.
Decisions, decisions.....

You can retro fit the factory kit very easy .. but you'll need stay away from the base model as it doesn't have the correct head unit ( radio )

You'll need the head unit with the keypad on it

Thanks Wiggs,
I assume to do so you'd need the module, probably a harness with mic? and the steering wheeel buttons from an auction site + programming. I imagine all that would end up costing more than a Parrot kit?

The higher spec cars such as the HSE have most of the kit already installed, including the mic as it is used for voice control. All you will need a D4 BT module, a fibre loop and a quick enable. This is a very common modification - I have enabled loads of them.

My HSE has factory bluetooth, Buttons on the side of the wheel.
You need to lair the phone with the correct code, and it works.
Mine however has these features/disadvantages

1- phonebook isnt stored.
2- doesnt integrate with apples siri
3- the voice command from LR is pretty dire for bluetooth, very limited
4- if the radio system is OFF, and you get a call, it will turn on automatically for you
5- plays my ringtone through the speakers

Im sure mine is the older D3 basic kit (2007 MY) but for me it does what i need, shame i cant easily make calls using the LR system, but hey ho!

1, you need a Bluetooth module update .. I offer exchange service
2, yes it does work with Siri , but you need to activate it from your phone
3, dials numbers , so pretty much all you need
4, correct ..as it should do
5, correct ..as it should do
