Which of these 2 Disco 4s would you buy? (ExHighways content
So I have a choice.
1. 2011 silver D4 XS, black wheels, snorkel and leather, 70k miles
2. 2011 Ex Highways silver D4, black wheels, no leather, 150k miles BUT, just had a new engine and suspension fitted by LR, all documented.
Any views?

More than likely car 1 if it has a good service history as it should be worth more when you resell Discovery 3 se gone

Not an easy choice, but I guess the Highways one will be pretty basic - can you live without the XS comforts? - what's the interior like wear wise?
What's the service / maintenance history on the XS?
Bound to be someone on the site who has an ex-highways that will be along shortly

For me it would be the ex-HA car, mainly as it has a new engine and suspension bits (devil's in the detail with that thought). I find my cloth seats in my D3 more comfy than the leather ones in my D4 so wouldn't be an issue.
But the down side it may well be needing a torque converter soon and would be difficult to get a meaningful warranty on it, if that's important.

I'd only consider the ex HA if I was planning to keep it for a long time. As others have mentioned, the resale could be difficult.
As DSL says, the gearbox could be an issue in the near future on the ex HA.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

I personally would go for number 1, few more features in an XS and selling it on will be easier. At the end of the day, the clock is already showing 80K more miles despite the new parts and this is the only thing many will look at. TC might be ok if it's been well serviced and been sat for many miles with the TC locked up in 6th??

At the speed they trot around at (60mph) the TC wouldn't be locked up, I was watching that on my IID a while ago and mine didn't lock up until ~70mph. And would they have done extra gearbox oil changes? Even with a double flush at 83k mine still needed a new TC at 140k. Plus any towing heavy trucks along the road wouldn't help much.

If it's ex Highways Agency, it would have been disposed of by them around 3 years ago and would have been likely to have had around 250,000 miles on it 3 years ago. Such a "low" mileage would not be impossible, but unusual. I'd be suspicious until proven otherwise.
