Alternator problem? Low power mode + many errors. |
|
Hi all - any thoughts on this scenario? Not seeing a specific equivalent in the technical section.
2005 D3 HSE Auto.
New battery put on about a month ago.
Recent usage has been several very short trips, and then car has been stood for a few days.
I started the car and, basically everything broke all at once:
HDC Not available.
Terrain settings not available.
Suspension in Low setting.
Height control not available.
Equivalent of D2 three amigos dash lights plus,
Amber park brake
Ambler steering tracking headlights
Speedo not registering
Stereo in low power mode
No specific error, but performance seemed restricted also.
Turned off / on and same problems occurred.
Drove a few miles and tried again with same results as shown here:
In hindsight not sensible, but I was running tight for time to be somewhere, so drove about 20 miles to get to my destination. Turning on and off again still showed errors.
Came back to car about 1.5hrs later same errors.
Drove about 15 miles towards home with symptoms as above, then pulled over switched off, locked doors and left for a minute.
When I unlocked and started the car again no errors reported, and can was fully functional again.
The thing I'm drawn to is the Low Power error reported by stereo even though engine was running.
Does anyone have any insight?
Per title, my thoughts are currently on a failing Alternator not providing enough charge to the battery.
P.s. I'm a dullard and don't have a multimeter to check any current outputs. 2005 Discovery 3 HSE Auto

As you suspect it could be the alternator.
It could also be the new battery isn't good enough. What make and rating is it?
Or the new battery wasn't fully charged before fitting and has just been getting drained due to little but heavy use, with no chance of charging with alternator.
